I have an old 10/22 in bad shape it down to less than 50%. I was thinking of a new stock and DuraCoating it in like a Vietnam Tiger Stripe. For the stock i was thinking of a TAPCO Collapsible stock. Has anyone done this before any advise or pit falls i should know about.

Welcome to THR! This sounds like a fun project. You will figure out everything you need to know as you get into it. I am hunting for a good 10/22 project for myself. Good luck and keep us posted on how yours turns out. Pictures are also a requirement ;-)

I used the dura-coat on a pistol that was very rusted, it came out pretty good for my first try at this stuff. Tips, don't put it on too thick, make sure your prep work includes some way of roughing up the surfaces so it will adhere well(sand blasting), follow the directions on applying the hardener to the letter.Mask all surfaces that are dimension critical for the weapon to function(I had some problems getting the pistol to go into battery that was caused by build up of the dura coat).Make sure the drying time is sufficient.

But you will be surprised when you're done it will lok a whole lot better and that stock you mentioned looks real great with the 10-22!

Welcome... 10/22's are fun projects. The Tapco stocks are great if you like the M4/AR15 feel. They do not accept .920 bull barrels though from what I recall, so you will have to stick to a tapered barrel. Check out rimfirecentral.com for lots of good info on the 10/22.

im 100% for hogue stocks, thats all i wear on my 10/22's, but then again thats personal preference. i tried the Advanced Technology 'dragunov' style, and it was decent looking but just felt cheap. but if youre doing a duracoat project, i would recommend your Tapco idea. could end up looking pretty sharp. theres more options than you may think for that weapon system.
