1. Anything they have in stock
2. Anything with a good margin they can order in quickly
LOL. I'll sell you whatever you want. Ask my opinion on a gun and I'll give it to you - even if that leads to you buying something else with less margin. Now if you walk into the store with a very firm and very low price ceiling your options diminish quickly. You want a new full size handgungun for no more than $300? I'll recommend a Sigma; yeah the triggers aren't that good, but they're reliable, more than can be said of most other guns selling new at that price point.

Columbus dealers are loving the M&P in .40 for some reason. I guess when the PD switched over, a lot of people saw the name on the news, and they just want what the police have.

I was at "The Shooting Den" the other day and overheard Cal, the owner, tell the Sig dealer that he is interested in anything in .45 and .40 so maybe there is some logic to their purchases :D But this particular gun store likes the 1911 frames mixed with revolvers and life-time guaranteed firearms. Its just what I see under the glass.

At my local one stop mall ninja shop, most any glock, and be sure not to forget the tactical low ride holster and plenty of extra mags.

My favorite local shop Gun Shack in Mt. Airy, MD bases their reccomendation on a consensus of all regular customers and employees within earshot and a 20 minute friendly conversation, doesn't really matter if its in stock, special order, new, used, consignment, or has been sitting on the shelf for years, they have plenty of stuff for decent prices and are always quick to share new load recipes, tricks of the trade and the occasional chocolate chip cookie.
They tried to get me into a swedish mauser a couple years ago because "there not gonna be around forever"
mint S&W early mod 29 on consignment $500 "you ever see Dity Harry young man"
Colt 70 series used for $500, because"you don't know what you have been missing"
1860 colt army $200 "because making big stinkin clouds of smoke is so much fun"
