I bought my daughter a LCR 38 Special. I am wanting to prepare some light loads for initial practice and have on hand 250 of cast .356 RNFP @ 100 grain. Understanding these are for a .380 auto and that 38 special is at .357 will the .356 be adequate for use?

Thanks,
Vacek

No, they will slick the barrel with lead causing you to curse up a storm when it comes time to clean or even a KB due to sending a FMJ down a bore that is all plugged up with lead.

when a bullet is undersized, hot gasses escape around it melting the lead and depositing them in the bore

My favorite super light 38spl load is a 105gr lrn that drops at .359 and a few grains of hp38. recoil is non existent, they are a hoot!

They will make a noise.
And they will fly off down range.
They will not hit where the sights are pointing.
And they will lead the barrel like mentioned.

But No, they will not blow up the gun due to leading.

But they will also fall down inside the cases when you try to seat them in your loading press.

In short?

No, they won't work.

for cast, minimum is .358,that is the standard.I would not shoot undersized lead in my guns either.
cast bullets are pretty easy to find right now. try badman bullets out of Oregon, for 1 source.Fine folks to deal with. There are some who sell smaller qtys'..by the hundred.. if u can't use 500 up.

Thanks to all for the insight and advice. I will buy some properly sized cast bullets this weekend.
