Does anyone know where I can get the appropriate target for 100 yards. I am shooting the M1 Garand with the iron sites and need a target I can see at 100 yards. What do they use during competion and can you buy them.

The target used in CMP sanctioned Garand matches is typically the SR (SR2) Service Rifle target at 200 yards. This has a 13" black (X to 9 ring).

A reduced version of the 200 yard target is available for 100 yard use, and is usually known as SR-1.

I don't know the best place to purchase official NRA targets from, but here's a link to a vendor with pictures and prices:

Note: The SR targets are huge, 21"x24" usually. You'll probably just want the service center targets, ie: SR-1C for SR-1. The service center targets are used to reface the target black on the SR targets. See the above link for clarification.

If you go here:

There is a bunch of targets. The ones labeled '200 reduced for 100', '300 reduced for 100', and '600 reduced for 100' are the 100yd reduced versions of the SR (normally used for 200yd Offhand and Rapidfire Sitting), the SR-3 (300yd Prone Rapid), and the MR-1 (600yd Slow Prone). They print out nicely on a standard sheet of copier paper; they do use a *lot* of black ink though, so I'd recommend printing a master copy on your computer printer and then going into an office supply shop and getting some copies made (or if work lets you use their stuff...). Not quite as much 'white' outside the black as there is on the 'official' regulation size reduced targets, but hey, we're all trying for the X ring right :D

HTH,

Monte
