I'm about to order some stuff from wolff and was wondering if I should pick up an extra power spring for my S&W 1006 as well.

The spring I have in there now is reliable for all the ammo I've ever put through it, both downloaded practice ammo and Double Tap. However, I believe I can feel the slide impacting the frame hard with full power ammo. Should I put a heavier spring in? What weight do other 1006 owners run? I assume the spring that is in there now is the stock one.

The 1006 uses the same recoil spring as the Colt Government model. Try a 20#.

FYI, if you have a 1066 or any of the other shorter barreled 10XX series, they use a standard Commander recoil spring.

Factory 1006 recoil spring is 18 pounds. I don't know about the S&W pistols using Colt springs, I know Wolff has seperate part numbers for S&W pistols. Recoil springs work in two ways. They do slow the slide as the spring reaches full compression, they also send the slide forward. Just remember, the higher the spring weight, the more forward momentum it will impart to the slide. This means more impact pressure on the rear of the barrel and slide stop pin. A better solution to buffering the slide and frame impact may be the Sprinco recoil reducer.

20lbs or 22lbs for the "Heavy & Fast" stuff. Mine runs fine with either, though for most loads its the 20lb recoil spring.
