10mm loads

I just bought a Glock 20 chambered in 10mm. The 200grn CCI Blazer rounds i got for it seem a little light considering what i have heard about the 10mm round. I already load for my .44 mag and my .45LC. I'm going to pick up a set of dies for the 10mm and i was wondering what loads work well in the 10mm.

I'm looking for information on what powder/bullet combinations give the best fps/ft.lbs combination. I'd like to load some rounds I can hunt with and some to just target practice with.

They look like they have some good loads, i'll probably shoot a few boxes of factory ammo to i'll have something to load

McNett used to have some loads listed at Glocktalk. I haven't been there in years. I use 180 grain Speer Gold dots over lots of Blue Dot in my G20. It's about impossible to get too much Blue Dot in the case. Fills it up. Slower powders like Blue Dot or 800-X work best for a variety of reasons.

Use these loads at your own risk. They are safe in MY gun and might not be in yours. Drop down 2gr to start and work up carefully.

All loads use CCI350 (magnum) primers with an OAL of 1.260".

speaking as one who is

(1) an experienced reloader,
(2) a 10mm guy, and
(3) one who has blown up a Glock 20,

I would strongly recommend you get an aftermarket barrel for your Glock.

There has been an extended discussion of very hot 135-gr / 800-X loads over on the Handloads.com Handguns forum--here is a link to that thread.

Read the link carefully. Be sure to get to the part where, as far as we could tell, Mike's initial pressure spike was probably somewhere around 54,000 to 60,000 psi. And, IIRC, these loads were "repudiated" by lack of appropriate data in their original posts--and I think they are the recipes, or started as the recipes, from Glock Talk.

IMO, Glocks are NOT the pistols to run hot 10mm loads in, at least with the factory barrel.

As a side comment, I will mention that handloads.com (and proguns.com) have really good forums for discussions of MAX loads, with several well-experienced reloaders interested in this kind of reloading who are willing to share their experience. I post some / read there a lot, and it has been a real education for me.

The 14.5gr 800X with a 135gr Nosler is a direct copy from the LoadbookUSA for the 10mm.

I lost the email to the Hodgdon contact I had. I'll call on Monday and get a hold of someone. They test for OEM manufacturers and I will be sending them a few loads with the 135gr Noslers and 800X for pressure testing. I'll post the results. I have to get some more powder.

Well, it's good to see that 14.5-gr. 800-X load documented from something "official." I don't have the LoadBook for 10mm; I'll have to get a copy.

Maybe with your business contacts, Freakshow10mm, you can get something from Hodgdon. When I talked to them last year about "357 light" (hot 38+P), all I could get out of them was legalese and a redirection to current data.

I note that all the older links to IMR data--e.g., the IMR site--have now been closed up and in some you are redirected to the Hodgdon Data Center. I just took a quick look there--and they no longer list 135mm bullets, much less anything approaching a hot recipe--I think it ends with 9.8 gr. under a 155-gr. bullet.

So, be sure to let us know your result, and if Hodgdon will pressure test loads for you--they turned me down flat.

jgo296: I have no doubt you've had no problems with your Glock 20. It isn't the preceding rounds that are the problem, except insofar as they stress the firearm--it's the next one, and it is a crapshoot every time if one is working at the margins.

My glock20 worked just fine for the first 282 rounds; it was at round 283 that it blewup--and that was with a target load I had shot 1000s of times in my SA Omega and some in my 1006.

Hodgdon will pressure test their products for OEM manufacturers. I'm loading up some samples with 800X using that published data from IMR. I want the bottom line on that pressure.

They test for OEM ammunition manufacturers, like myself. They will not and will never pressure test for consumers, according to Hodgdon.

I will be sending the test ammo out later this week and will post the results I get from Hodgdon.

I'm about to take my first 10mm loads to the range this week and see how much blue dot I can stuff under a 150gr nosler jhp!

I personally would be real careful, The pressure in the 10mm is really high to start with. (not like a 45 acp round)

I like the 400 Corbon for that reason it is getting some good ratings at the low end of the scale of pressure. If you want to jack it up some it is not a biggie.


If you go to Hornaday site and check out their "HIT scale" you will come up with a good answer as to what is the best projectile for a 10mm

This means nothing other than a little personal experience....

I use 11.0 under the 180s GD's in new Starline cases, WW primers. In my G20 I get zero bulge. This is the load that came off Glocktalk years ago.

but spot on about the accurate part.

According to Hornady that is in the low 300's with there HIT calibration, small animals not very big deer and humans are good to go, for that load.

I have done some experimenting to see how much power I can get from 10mm.

Mike at Double Tap was saying 8 years ago that 180 gr and 200 gr and 800X is the answer.

He saved me allot of time with those posts.

I've also taken black bear with a 180gr XTP at less than 1220fps.
