10mm Pet Loads

Anyone care to share their pet loads for 10mm? Ill probably be making a bulk buy on supplies in the next few weeks and would like to keep my powders as consolodated as possible. I dont mind having a random pound or two of the good stuff for hunting / PD loads but for general target and plinking it would be nice to have only 2-3 kegs to order.

Right now Im using 800x and 2400 for full power loads in my Glock 29 and getting good results. I use Titegroup and Bullseye for my target loads in .380, 9mm, and .40 S&W. I found a pound of HS-6 that I must have bought on a whim a few months ago. I have plenty of 180 grain FMJ and XTP's to play with so any ideas on a pet load?

I'm just getting started reloading 10mm, so I will list the powders but not the charge weights.

I bought a pound of Blue Dot, because it seems to be best for higher power loads.

For the lead 180 grain Missouri Bullets I am using, I have tried 231, HS6, Unique, Bullseye. Each is reputed to give 1000-1050 fps with a 5" barrel.

I also have seen loads for 296, Red Dot and Green Dot, but I would not call them "main stream" loads.

Subscribing, in the hopes of learning from others' input.

You're using 2400 in your 29? What primer are you using and are you getting any unburned powder?

My educated guess is yes. 2400 is similar in burn rate to Blue Dot and #9, both of those will not burn completely in a G20 let alone G29.

For the 180gr bullets, straight up 9.2gr Longshot set to 1.250 with any primer type (standard, magnum, brand) will be an accurate medium heavy load. The XTP bullets are very accurate and really compliment that load well.

For lead, with the 170-180gr bullets, you'll want to use 6.3gr of WSF with the above OAL. Low smoke, clean shooting, accurate, great plinking load.

2400 is too slow for 10mm.. even more so in the short G29 barrel. Dont even concider 296 either... you'd be better off pouring it on your lawn.

800X is pretty much the accepted standard for the very top end, but you have to measure each charge seperately to make it worth the effort. I've used 800x with bullet weights from 135-200 and it works well thruout the range, but its too much hassle for my taste.

I really like power pistol for most of my loads. 9.0-9.5 grains under a 165grn fmj shoots great and lets you know you are shooting a 10mm. Burns clean and smells pretty good. Meters perfectly in my progressive which is why it is my "go to".

10grns Blue dot under a 180grn bullet is a good, stout load as well.

edit: I shoot these in a steel full size Witness and a G20SF w/ Barsto barrel. Both of these provide excellent case support. With a stock glock barrel, work up carefully.

I havent used 2400 yet, I got it for heavy 45 LC loads in an Encore and have since gotten rid of that barrel. I was searching for more information before I tried it with 10mm loads. One of the books I have listed it, but then again who knows what length barrel was being used.

The 800x did really well, but having to weigh every charge is a pain in the behind. Very accurate and definitley let you know your shooting a 10mm. I dont mind loading a handful of these to carry into the woods.

It looks like a lot of people are using Power Pistol and Longshot with 10mm, but it also looks like most of these loads are at the top end. What would be really nice is a just above medium target load with a common powder that meters well.

For the upper end loads, Longshot, AA# 9 and 800x are accuate and hot enough for me using 180gr XTP's. For target and plinking, Titegroup using Berry's plated 180gr FP or Montana Gold 180gr HP are accurate. OAL 1.255.

Longshot, AA# 9 and TiteGroup meter perfectly in my LnL AP. 800x needs to be hand weighed, but as griff383 say's above "Very accurate and definitley let you know your shooting a 10mm"

Glock 20, Glock 29, SW 610, and Oly Arms 10mm carbine here!

4.8 grains of TiteGroup and 180 grain Rainers - GOOD TARGET LOAD

10.7 grains of AA#7 an 180 grain Rainers

5.3 grains of W231 and 180 grain Rainers - GOOD TARGET LOAD

8.6 grains of Power Pistol an 180 grain FMJ - accurate 25/50 yard load

9.5 grains of Longshot an 180 grain JHP - accurate in G20

200 grainers anyone?

Yup, we load up to a 245gr JHP. 10mm was developed with the 200gr bullet. Heavy bullets in the 10mm are very fun.

If you want some fun ...try metering 800X ... grains the size of cornflakes ... I think unfrosted corn flakes may meter better... those flakes tend to bunch up before you get your bowl full ... then break loose and spill all over the table... seems to work that way with 800X too!! Dang good 357 SIG powder though!!

My recent post in another thread about 800X ....It is a good 10mm powder too!

I should add that my old RCBS Uniflow will throw 800X within reason... however it is much harder to get it throw an exact charge like I can with most powders including Unique. 800X is a high velocity powder in most suitable calibers.... I like it in the 357 SIG.

I use an old rcbs powder measure and the 800x meters fine for me. For loads equivilent to factory ammo I like unique. I have most pistol calibers and unique works great in all them.

10.2 gr Blue Dot with Remington 180gr JHP. I have tried a lot of other 10mm handloads but none are as accurate as this Blue Dot load. It is full power with lots of flash that this powder is known for.
