12 gauge or 20 gauge in coach gun?

I chose 12 gauge for my side-by-side coach gun, but recoil doesn't bother me much.

Its all relative but, in my experience, a lot more expensive and a lot less available.

Less available, but pricewise? Seems all the defensive buckshot I know of is running about $1 a shell. The cheap stuff like Rio is maybe 20% cheaper.

I don't think price is an issue comparing it to 12ga, but for 20ga? I doubt the cost would be any different.

I was buying Rio in 12ga & 20ga* buck shot for about .35 ea for a flat of 250.

*I'm positive it's Rio in 12 & pretty darn sure it's also Rio in 20ga.

Assuming equal availability of buckshot ammo, I would go with the 20 all day long....

A couple yrs ago. Actually, a couple years pre china bug.

The Military buckshot in the plain brown box was 5 rounds @ about $6.

Most run if the mill buckshot or slugs were in the 75+ cent range on ammoseek.

Mini shells and reduced recoil were a buck or more.

Rio seems (seemed) to flood it out cheap a few times a yr. A few different times I could get flats or sleeves for about half the cost of others; not 20% less.

That's my experience.
