I saw someone selling a LIVE 14.5x114mm tracer round on Gun Broker. There person does not mention it being a destructive device. I thought you had to have a special license to buy such ammo over .50 caliber? This is a .57 caliber heavy machine gun/anti-material rifle round.

Would it be legal to purchase it? Do I need a license or permit of some variety? Or is this just for the weapon itself, not the ammo?

Only the weapon itself is regulated, not the ammo. An exception would be if the ammo contained more than 1/4 oz of an explosive.

For example, here's some .50 BMG Raufoss for sale. It contains a little bit of RDX, but you can get it shipped right to your door.

Anzio Ironworks sells 20mm Vulcan ammo to go with their awesome rifle, but they're currently out of stock on it.

So you're telling me I can buy solid armor piercing 20mm ammo and have it shipped to my house like it's .22LR?

Very cool.

PS: How hard is it to get a stamp for a destructive device like a PTRD-41, a bolt-action 14.5x114mm anti-tank rifle?

It's the same process as getting any other NFA item. Buy it, mail in your application, pay your $200 and wait a few months to a year for your stamp.

If they're legal in your state, and you can pass a background check, then you can own one.

The "rumor" is that DD's see more scrutiny than other NFA items (for rather obvious reasons when it comes to cannon)

Do you think there's any kind of 14.5mm ammo besides armor-piercing? What vest could possibly stop it, lol? AP stuff only applies to handguns, high-explosive projectiles are handled as individual DD's like hand grenades.

The real problem with 14.5x114mm is and will be the lack of brass. I'm not sure why no one has tooled up to make it in quantity since it's a rather awesome upgrade over 50cal, which has become relatively common among the "big gun" set in these days of freedom and plenty. My KPV kit has a 4.5" diameter heavy pipe receiver and 5ft 1.5" diameter barrel, and weighs around a hundred pounds by itself; it's more like a piece of hydraulic equipment than a gun. You could fit kielbasas in the ammo-belts.

I don't know about scrutinty but the dealers are scared! I went looking for a 40mm launcher before 41T to fill a gap in my collection and could not find someone willing to sell. I must have BCCed 20-30 Arizona DD dealers for quotes (I've done the same thing with cans) aome of the replies I got indicted they had compared notes on my email. Many were downright hostile or suspicious. Only two were willing to place an order but claimed everyone was out of stock. The manufacture I was looking at was telling me the opposite.

Many linked to the fake news about chalk and flares being declared DD. What had actually happened was IR flares were declared explosives requiring a FEL to store because they did not fall under the "illumination" device exception.

PS still considering a cannon of some sort. My understand is a 2 piece ammo breach loaded would not even be NFA even if it used brass and smokeless powder.
