1849 wells fargo at Cabelas

Why is the Uberti 1849 at cabelas so danged expensive when compared with other places, like buffalo arms or texas jack's? Most of their prices, especially with the Piettas, seem so reasonable.

I can only speak from my personal experience with several different makes of repro revolvers.

Uberti has a longer reputation for better quality control. I got an Uberti pocket police a few years ago and just recently a Pietta Remmie. I was impressed with the Pietta, because their reputation was hit or miss until just a few years ago. The Uberti is definitely better fit and smoother but not by a substantial amount. The Pietta cylinder that came with my remmie, has one chamber mouth that is slightly out of round, right out of the box. by only 2 thousandths, but strange and probably enough to affect accuracy from that chamber.

I have a Ruger Old Army and that is like a Cadillac produced tank compared to both the uberti and the Pietta.

I understand that the two German made revolvers are the Rolls Royce models. For that reason, the German made revolvers are far more expensive and rarely seen here in the US

Yes but all the 1849 replicas currently available are made by Uberti, whether it comes from Cabela's, Buffalo Arms, Texas Jack's (Cimarron), Taylor's, Dixie Gun Works, etc..

I misread your post and thought the reference to other prices were Pietta made guns.

Piettas are down right good deal cheap considering the tooling and work that goes into them.

I've got nothing but respectful things to say about both pietta and uberti pieces. I just wondered why Cabelas prices piettas so affordably, but the uberti pieces seem rather high, compared with other places around the web.
I wouldn't be shocked if they do it simply because they can, or if there is a more acceptable reason.

The Cabela's 1849 Wells Fargo Pistol Set which comes with a mold, wood box, flask and cap tin is very reasonably priced when on sale at $329 like it is right now. Just the gun alone was priced at $299 at my local gun shop and is $295 at Dixie.
What probably contributes to Cabela's regularly high prices for Uberti guns are their promotions (points, coupons and shipping discounts), their liberal return policy and lower sales volume on Uberti models.
Lower sales volume could also mean lower discounts from Uberti.
The way that Cabela's sets the prices for their Uberti guns also causes less harm to the smaller Uberti dealers, much less harm than they do to the Traditions Pietta dealers which higher revolver prices.

Agreed. That pistol is sweet looking. I hadn't realized that it was a package deal.
As far as general costs, that idea would make sense.

gorgeous little thing. That is a much better sale price. Are the barrels on the antique boxed version 3" or 4"?
By the way, last time I was playing around with one at the local store, I noticed how incredibly well fitted the wedge was. This got me to wondering - how tight should a wedge usually be. I mean should I be able to move it from side to side with relative ease, and should I be able to remove it with just my fingers? (in this case I'm speaking of my 1860 army.)

Unfortunately here in Canada modern reproductions with barrels less than 4 1/8 inches are "prohibited" so I can't have one even though I have a gun license. I can buy an antique of the same gun with no license at all.

How do you load that thing?

Is there a loading lever hidden somewhere in the box? Or do you have to buy one of those loaders you drop the cylinder onto?

The ramrod is cleverly concealed inside the cylinder.
