Anyone else like the 1861 Colt?

These are two Ubertis from the 70's.

I haven't had them to the range in a while but they will go on the next outing.

Pancho,

I wonder what the difference is with the square back and the round back trigger guard.

Just the way I got them when I bought them. The only two left from the Replica Arms line of repros.

As I recall I did not notice the difference for a couple of weeks! I like both styles and have no favorites. On these guns there is not enough recoil to notice the square back.

I have fired guns where the squareback met my knuckles with enough punch to make shooting uncomfortable.

I really have to update pics of this gun. Anyways, here is my Colt Signature Series 1861 Navy .36.

I have a Uberti 1861 and a Pietta 1861 with brass TG and bs -- and the longer barrel. I happen to like both.
I was unaware the 1861 has ever had a squareback TG. Is that a repro of an actual Colt design or is it the Italian makers getting cute, like with .44 cal Navy 1851s?
I have the 1851 Navy Uberti with a squareback and it IS a little different -- atleast with me it crowds the middle finger a bit.
Both those guns look quite attractive BTW. Good find there, Strawhat!

The square back trigger guard is at least feasible. Colt may have had some left over and bolted them onto the 61s. They did that with a lot of components.

R.L. Wilson said there were about 100 of the fluetted cylinder 61s made- about the same number lugged for shoulder stocks.
This 61 hits close to point of aim and is easy to shoot

Love love love my Navies.

Actually I think my '51 is my favorite though. It's the original and there is just something about the octagon barrel.

The '51 has the squareback triggerguard on mine and my two '61s, London all steel model and Civillian brass model respectively have the round backs.

I find the .36 to be much more accurate than all of my .44s. The '51 shoots a bit high but I've learned it well, as we have spent LOTS of quality time together, and can put the balls right were I want them. My '61s both shoot to POA. The London all steel model was my Dad's bought back in 1970 and the case hardening is just gorgeous. I don't think I've seen another as pretty. It's marked Replica Arms Marietta Ohio made by Uberti.

Here's a few more to show it off a bit.

You might notice and be saying to yourself, hey that there .36 is capped and loaded! And I would reply, yep. That's because this pistol was my Dad's HD pistol. I just recently inherited it and haven't had the time to go out and unload it...properly, hehe.

Dad didn't want or need a modern pistol for the house. In his opinion he would say, "ah those new fangled fancy cartridge pistols are just a passing fad. They'll never catch on. If it was good enough for Hickock it's good enough for the old man!" :D:D The chamber under the hammer is not capped. He kept it capped with the hammer between chambers and on the pin but I uncapped it to bring it home.

Great pictures here, definitely like the black frames on these. I would totally agree with your Dad Phantom Captain...

I would have to agree. The model 1861 with the black all steel triggerguard and backstrap has to be one of the most aesthetically pleasing designs of any pistol ever. Well, i'm my humble opinion of course. :)

And yeah Chazz, I liked how he thought too! I'm keeping it loaded and ready just the way he left it!

Yup, I agree... the 1861 Navy is the best!

Would k*ll the bast**d who stole my Dad's original if we ever found 'em...

So I got this Colt Signature Series one as a replacement:

My favorite cowboy action guns are my Colt '61's, hands down!

I shoot a Second Generation and a Signature Series.

I like the Second Generation the best.
