A week ago my kirst conversion cylinder and barrel insert chambered in 22 LR for my Uberti pocket police arrived in the mail.

I finally got around to fitting it to my pocket police today and the process took me around a hour. It fit my pocket police just fine but when cocked it wouldn't go into full cock.

I assumed the hand was long and was correct in my assumption. I proceeded to file a little bit off the hand at a time and then reassemble and test for functionality until the little pistol would function correctly.

When I took it out to shoot today I quickly realized when trying to load the cylinder that 4 out of 6 chambers couldnt chamber a cartridge due to having burs so I took a small round file to knock down the burs until the cartridges slid into the cylinder.

The conversion cylinder feels very solid and well made save the small issue with the burs in the chamber mouths which was quickly remedied.

The 2 3/8" barrel sleeve has a nice right hand twist rifling and is also very sturdy feeling.

My first cylinder with CCI 22 LR standard ammo was shooting quite low at 5 yards as I've lowered my hammer notch for the percussion cylinder.

I set out a 24 ounce beer can that I found in the woods and stepped back to 12ish yards and changed my point of aim

Much to my amazement The darn can started dancing as it was getting pelted with every shot I took. I decided to step back another 5 yards and was still hitting the can every time.

In total I put 50 rounds through the little cylinder today and was PLEASANTLY surprised at the accuracy out of the tiny 2 3/8" barrel insert.

All in all this is a great little rig and I intend to take the pocket police with its regular percussion cylinder and its conversion kit with me out into the woods on small camping trips or expeditions.

I'm a big fan of walt kirsts' conversion products and will continue to happily purchase them from him.

Now I want one.

Gary,

Let me tell you this brother,

They are sweeeeeeetttttt!

Expensive? yes they are

Worth it? You bet

Perfect pack out gun for camping trips. A pound of black powder and 200 .380 balls doesn't take up much room and has plenty of punch for nearly anything in the woods if need be.

200 22LR cartridges take up nearly no room and can also get the job done quite efficiently when called on.

Yes, a .22 pistola is a very good survival gun, it can feed you well and even discourage larger animals that might pester you. Having it packaged in a 1862 is pretty cool. Is there a specific reason that the barrel insert is short? Not that it matters for a small game gun, my S&W AirLite only has a three inch barrel, and I still get 940fps with run of the mill, standard or normal "high velocity" ammo. (specifically Winchester 36 grain ammo) However, just curious why it isn't closer to the length of the pistols barrel.

Walt only makes his 22 LR Kirst conversion kit with this size barrel insert .
I've heard it said that he believes accuracy has less to do with barrel length and more to do with the lengthened sight picture you get from your regular size barrel.
Also I've heard that it would add to the total cost of the conversion kit.

If he ever makes a bigger insert id definitely buy it, but accuracy was quite superb in the little gun with the small insert.

I have the .22 kit for my Goonerized '51 Navy. The barrel/cylinder gap was too tight to allow the cylinder to rotate, so I sanded the breech end of the bore insert until it had enough clearance. It works fine and allows me to shoot the Navy at an indoor range.

How is accuracy with your 51

Well them's good specific reasons. Right, short barrels are not less accurate, but you get a longer sight radius with a longer barrel. A longer insert would boost velocity a bit, but again, the short barrel on my AirLite does just fine in that department, and for small game you don't want to damage a lot of meat. Okay, just curious.

Every now and then. I live in Sevier Co near GSMNP. We go to the park entrances on the NC side sometimes as they usually don't have as many people. Love the Bryson City area.
