It is an absolute bear to get cartridges into the magazine of my 1895G through the loading gate. The gate pushes easily and springs back fine, but there's a hangup at the end when I load a round.

Once in, I have to push the round a bit forward with the tip of my thumb to get it so the gate will drop for the next round to go in (I can't just push the gate down with the next round, I have to physically nudge the one in the magazine forward with my thumbtip for the gate to move at all).

I'm thinking that the gate default position may be too far outward?
It's almost flush with the receiver edge (even a hair more outward and the rounds would just spring directly into the action immediately). It seems like if it rested further in it all would work smoothly.

Any ideas?
(thanks!)

Well, after looking at pics of other Marlins, pics of mine would just look the same as others it seems. I guess I may be way off there then. It's all more of a tightness/pressure issue.

The rounds are really squashed up hard on that loading spring gate edge (it's still scraping the base of a magazined round as I fight to press the round further in the mag to get the gate even to go down for the next one), so maybe its just that my mag spring just needs to be broken in way more?

If you have a round in the mag tube and were to push the gate all the way in, does the round come back out fairly freely? With mine the round gets stuck halfway out on the gate and has to be really forced back out (and the gate is really pushing back hard).

The only comparison I have at the moment is that there's a video floating around of a guy "gating" using his fingertip to dispense each round one after the other into his waiting hand- there's no way that my rifle's gate would even currently come close to letting the cartridges pop out like that.

If pics still would help I can get some posted. Does this all sound either normal or odd to you?

Thanks again.

I have the same problem with both of my Marlins, a 336C and an 1894C. Pressing the gate open goes easily, but then to get the cartridge all the way in I have to turn my thumb sideways and really push it. I've ripped pieces of my thumbnail off a few times this way.

I've pretty much gotten used to it and I assumed all Marlins share this minor problem. But if there's a way to make loading the cartridges easier I'd love to know about it.

Don't use your thumb. :)

Seriously - I use my forefinger, and that helps a lot..
