Is The Auto-ordnance 1911 (now Owned By Khar?) A Decent, Reliable Pistol? I Am Considering Either One Of Them Or A Rock Island. I Know The Rock Island Is From The Phillipines, But I Cant Affford A Springfield Armory. Im Going To The Des Moines Gun Show Saturday And Am Taking My Wasr - 10 Plus Some Cash To Look For A 1911 Copy. Im Open For Advice. I Already Have A Ccw; My Taurus Pt 111 Pro 9mm. The 45 Will Be My Around The Farm Companion. Or Should I Trade In Both The Pt 111 And The Wasr 10 And Look For A Springfield Armory 1911? Thanks For The Inputs!

The Auto-Ordnance is a "sometimes" gun. Sometimes its O.K., and sometimes it isn't. If you are going to buy one take somebody along that knows the in's and out's of a 1911 pistol and have him check out any prospective purchase.

In general I think you'd be better off if you saved your money and bought a better gun in the future rather then a lesser one now.

I have never been impressed with Auto Ordinance internal parts but frankly, I have no issues with the frames or slides.
The barrels are pretty good too, certainly no worse that WW-2 production stuff and in many cases even better than.
I have built several guns for customers using these components, everything went together and fit without issue, the guns must still be working, they don't come back in.
I did use Commercial brand name or USGI component parts.

I have a .45 that I built on an Auto Ordinance receiver that has had well over 10.000 rounds fired and it still works just fine.

For the same price, if not less, you can get a much better gun in the Springfield GI .45 Mil-Spec pistol, and get both a forged frame and slide and lifetime warranty.
