The purpose of this thread is to get a hand count of those who may be interested in a 1911 chambered for a .32 rimless cartridge.

No naysayers, please.

I'd like to use this thread as a small market sampling for use in persuading some manufacturers into selling me test units and limited production runs of components needed in order to get this project off the ground.

A discussion thread concerning the technical aspects is posted here:
http://www.thehighroad.org/showthread.php?p=4355712#post4355712

The purpose of this chambering will be to address a few target markets, namely:

1. Bullseye and target shooters.
2. Young and new shooters.
3. Older shooters.
4. Handicapped shooters.
5. Anyone who is recoil sensitive.
6. Shooters on a budget (I hope that in time, the cartridge will be carried by the big cartridge makers).

The cartridge would provide the middle ground between .22 LR and 9x19mm.

I have no interest in being the sole entity for the provision of this kit/system/parts, whatever. I would just like to see this available on the market regardless of me getting any piece of the action, so to speak. Many of the folks I've taught are older and have problems with slide manipulation as well as the recoil of the 9mm. Small revolvers are also a problem with them, usually due to the trigger weight. In time, I'd like to see this offered in a light weight officer/commander size platform with ammunition available from reputable manufacturers.

Well, I can see the interest if the cartridge was established. Would this be something marketed primarily to those intending to handload (as I suspect it would)?

I can see a potential niche among those who want a dedicated target 1911 in an extremely mild centerfire handgun cartridge.

If the uppers (slide/components, barrel, recoil plunger/spring and magazine) were available at a reasonable price, I can see a general interest in the gun world. Otherwise, I question if it would be worth the effort from a financial perspective as I strongly suspect there is currently little interest.

Sounds very interesting. Shoot shoot like a .22 out of a 5" all steel 1911.

By .32 Rimless are you talking .32 ACP or something new?

Maybe something like Springfield's EMP reduced-size 1911 with a slide that has a breech face suitable for the .32 cal, but a minimum 3.5" barrel. Alloy frame, overall empty weight 19-21oz, yep I like the idea well enough.

Hmm. Honestly, I can't think of a single reason why I would be interested in this. Not trying to naysay, just saying that my interest would be low. There are two reasons for this:

1. I enjoy shooting 9mm and .45 just fine, and am not recoil sensitive.

2. If I was, and if I didn't have access to a Colt Pocket, I would likely explore the new .327 magnum. It's a revolver, not an auto, but the cartridge pretty much fills the bill.

Anyway, good luck.

If your not interested .. well .. don't respond, please :D

funnelcake,
Check the link for more details. This project is basically using as many off the shelf parts as possible, with as little custom stuff as possible. For now.
The idea is to get the cartridge made by the big guys 1st. The rest should hopefully follow along.

Walkalong,
Thank you for voicing your interest.

No offense, but in surveys this is called selection bias. In marketing, this is how New Coke gets created.

So what's your point?

Uh, I was trying to be subtle, but oh well. If you are only interested in listening to the opinions of people who agree with you, then your idea will go over like a lead balloon. Also, if you want to collect marketing data via internet forum, good luck. Not too many manufacturers will pay much attention to that kind of information.

As for the idea itself, why not just make a run of 1911s chambered in .32 S&W Long, rim and all? Colt and S&W both offered semi-autos in .38 Special for the bullseye market.

"No naysayers."

Sorry, but I interpret that as "I am a genius who knows what people want and I plan to make something whether anyone wants it or not because I think it is a great idea and everyone must agree with me."

Good thinking. I hope you are not looking for investment capital.

Subtle? Funny. Looks like peeing in my wheaties to me.

What the heck is wrong with trying to get a list of people interested without all the flak? Want to talk tech, I put a thread in for that.

Got a personal problem with me? PM me.

Jim, you can interpret it however you want all the live-long day. Have a blast.

I'm footing the bill on this project, no one else.

I'm looking to fill a niche. Between .22 and 9mm, don't want it? Start your own dang thread.

That's it ..

Mods .. please close this thread and burn it.

If it's .32 ACP or other established, available cartridge I'd be interested.
New wildcat cartridge, not so much.

Sheesh. A little touchy, huh? My problem is not with your idea, but with the brusque and all-knowing way you presented it. With an attitude like yours, maybe you should consider pitching your god-given epiphany to those fun-loving souls at H&K or Ceiner, where you'll no doubt be among birds of a feather.
