1911 Mags

After much procrastination, I finally ordered 2 mags from Check-Mate Industries. CM45-7-S-H & CM45-8-S-H. Mags recommended by 1911Tuner in threads here and over at the 1911 forum as well.

I am very curious to see how they hold the top round. The Kimber Pro-Tac mags have a similar feed lip/release point, (later release) but they do not hold the top round up high and in better alignment with the chamber like the Colt mags do.

I have one 1911 that is a bit finicky with some loads with Kimber/Chip McCormick/Wilson/Novak mags, but will feed anything, and smoothly, with an old ragged 7 round Colt mag with GI type feed lips. You can see the difference in where it holds the top round in reference to the bore.

26.68 & 28.68 including the bumper packs, plus about 5 shipping. Still cheaper than some mags. They give a price break at 7 mags. If these work like they should, I'll be taking advantage of that price break the next time I call.

I am anxious to get them and try them out.

Antbody else have experience with them?

Wow, they are a bit pricier than I thought they might be! What kind of price break do you get with the 7-pack?

The Check-Mate manufactured "Colt Factory" mags are available at Brownell's too for about the same price. I got a blued 7rd, no bumper for $26. The stainless mags are a little cheaper, 8rd are a little more. Maybe there's savings to be had on shipping if you're ordering other stuff from Brownell's anyway.

The one I got was almost indistinguishable from the pre-WWI GI mag. Haven't shot it yet. Feeds snap-caps like a champ, for what that's worth.

Also, I don't know if they have a mix of Metalform and Checkmate mags for the "Factory" mags. I understand that Colt subcontracts their factory mags from Metalform and CheckMate. Finally, I don't know if the "Colt Factory" mags are made to a different spec or have a different follower than the ones they sell under their own brand.

From what I have read here on THR, Check-Mate, Metalform, and Okay make Colt mags made to Colts specs.

I did not ask what the price break was.

Wow, they are a bit pricier than I thought they might be!

Still cheaper than Wilson, and should be better mags, despite the fact that Wilsons are good mags and work great in many guns.

They lost my first order, but I called again Monday or Tuesday and got them Wednesday.

Awesome mags at first glance. They are obviously VERY well made out of quality materials.

Going to wring them out in my 1911 that is finicky with Berry's 185 Gr SWC's @ 1.190 with a VARIETY of NAME brand mags, but when I use an old Colt mag it is 100%. (My Colt Series 80 eats them like candy with any mag)

I expect these mags to run 100% in that gun as they mimic the way the Colt mag holds the rounds up higher and in better alignment with the bore.

Report coming soon, but I think I have found a great mag, thanks to 1911Tuner trying to pound it into our thick skulls here at THR.
