I've got a puzzle. I've got a MKIV 70 Series NM GC 1911 Model 5870 with a 70N57XXX serial number. Looks just like the MKIV 70 Series NM GC 1911 with a 67XXX serial number (and several others a friend and I own) except for the fact that the lettering on the 57XXX is much larger and starts close to the ejection port!

Any 1911 experts have an explanation for the differences.

Greeting's hso My Friend-

I'm certainly not a COLT expert by any stretch of the imagination; but it
seems like I once own a COLT Lightweight Commander with the same
type of lettering. This was way before "digi-cams" came around, so I
don't have any pics too relate to. The guy I bought the Commander
from said it dated back to the late 60's? I haven't looked at this link
www.ProofHouse.com to verify this; but it could be possible. Serial
number was CLW 002514.

I just checked at www.ProofHouse.com and indeed it does look like
my old COLT Lightweight Commander (CLW-002514) was made some
where between 1969-1970. I guess the old gentleman knew his COLTS.

BTW, I just wished I had enough sense too have kept the darn thing~!
