I bought a snubby 2 3/8" 1917 S&W off a very good friend of mine. The gun was brazilian surplus gun. My buddy had it customized by Joe Buncsk at Phoenix Armory years ago. The barrel is cut down to 2 3/8". It has been parkerized. The hammer is bobbed and the front sight has a gold bead in the blade. This monster is sweet. It has the original grips which I would like to replace with a nicer set of the same type of original grips. I have a Tyler T grip filler on the way.

Anybody know where to get a nice set of 1917 grips? Thanks!

I'll try and post a picture soon.:D

See the S&W grip thread 6 posts down. These sources also make square butt grips. The original 1917 Army grips were smooth walnut and to me UGLY. I presume you want Diamond S&W grips. You can find originals on E-bay BUT be prepared to pay upto $100+ for a cherry set.

Well it depends on how much money you want to spend ....

Numrich/The Parts Corp. (www.e-gunparts.com) make walnut replacement grips that duplicate the original ones for around $30.00 - True original ones in beat shape sometimes go for that.

Post World War One grips that are checkered and were used on commercial guns (.38-44, 44 Special, etc.) can be found but they are usually very expensive.

As a general rule any grips that were made for a square-butt N-frame will fit, which opens up the possibilities. Prices will be all over the map.

I highly recommend Eagle Grips. They make a "regular" style, to replace standard-size grips - see here - in rosewood or ebony at very reasonable prices. If you want to go fancier, try their Heritage series - see here - which look great and are a real eye-catcher.

Timely post because I recently picked up a stock S&W Model 1917 revolver but the stocks were in bad shape.

Gunparts is currently out

I'd like to get a reasonably priced pair which conform to original specifications myself. I think I'll keep checking back to Gunparts, I've had pretty good luck with them in the past.

Like Preacherman said Eagle Grips. They also make the heritage series that might have something for you. I bought a set of rosewoods for my S&W 66 and like you are waiting for some Tylers to arive.

Thank you

I will look into all of these suggestions. My grips are diamond cut and beat. I got splinter this very morning. I would like to try and refinish it but in the interim I'll look into your options.

Again thanks!

I love those 1917 wheelguns, hurry up and post the damn pics. LOL Actually I just have a thing for any 45 wheelgun. I only have one right now but my next one is going to be a Colt or Smith 1917 45acp.
