i spent yesterday morning wiring up a hole in my facia boards from a flying squirrel chewing holes in them and getting into my attic.....well i woke up a little while ago only to hear the little mothers knawing on the wire.....i just taped a surefire flashlight to my ole winchester mod 61 22 rimfire and snuck ouside and popped the little mother off the side of my chimney....i don't hear any sirens so i guess the neighbors didn't hear that ratshot that i used to zap his or her furry little butt.....This is the third or fourth time that i've had to deal with them....anybody know how to get rid of them????? They seem to eat rat poison with little effect.......any sugggestions will be appreciated......D I C K
 
I think the snake would have a great impact on your squirrel problem.

I had a problem with the little buggers last summer. The found a nice hole to get in my walls. I have sinced fixed the hole.

I tried to keep the side of my house clean of them. Pellet gun when I would notice them over there. Also let the dog run doe that side of the house. I also caught a couple in cat traps (we have a cat problem). You might try to bait some trap like that.
 
Aside from watching out for the results of their "work ethic", scatter a handful of mothballs in your attic. They evaporate, so replacement is necessary every month or so.

It's an unending process, though...Repairs, mothballs, ratshot...

Might try putting a squirrel feeder up.

Critters "might" find the easy food source placed some distance from the house - more tempting and easy pickings.

Don't know how close your neighbors are - Neighbors might find the squirrel feeders are "cute" , "fun to watch" , or even "PC".

Neighbors buy squirrel feeders, your squirrels Like the neighbor's feeders better - especially if they start eating at neighbors ( being real good about keeping their corn cobs stocked - and you "just happen" to become lax).

You wouldn't be upset if the critters left you for the neighbors - now would you?

I hear Squirrel Feeders make nice gifts to neighbors...*ahem* ;)

Did I mention I had a slight problem once....did I mention my problem went away ? - some neighbors inherited my problem.

Take one big can of Cayenne pepper, sprinkle liberally around the entrances.

You will hear them sneezing their heads off at night for a couple of days, then they will move on.

Worked for me, YMMV.

Not as much fun as shooting them however. :evil:
 
Snake in the attic ? Last year I caught a snake in a mouse trap !! Apparently trying to find a mouse .
 
We had a problem with skunks under the house many years ago. The fix maight work for squirrels, too. Who know? Worth trying.

To tell the story right...we had skunks move in under our house. It got so once or twice a week we would wake up at night after they had "let loose" and it was purely miserable. This was in a somewhat remote part of the Bay Area.

We called every exterminator and government agency in the phone book. Everyone said they couldn't help us. We got so desperate we called 'em all again. This time, we reached an "old lady secretary." She said "Listen, hon." (She was old enough not to know that this was sexist talk and would make for an uncomfortable work environment.)

"Listen, hon, I shouldn't tell you this, but it worked for me & Al. Send your huband out at 3:30am. I know, that's hard, but that's when they're most likely to be outa the house. Don't wanna surprise 'em under the house. Have him take radio with him. Not battery-powered--the plug-in kind. And an extension cord to reach an outlet. Now have him turn the radio on just loud enough that it don't bother you in the house. No classical music, hon. Gotta be hard rock. Now leave it on for a week or so. They'll find some other place to live. Then find out how they were getting in, patch the hole, and ya should be good."

Worked like a charm.
 
I work for the largest house rental company in my city. We have had to deal with this alot. Main fix is to eliminate all access to the roof, IE: remove any branches within jumping distance, lower electrical masts etc. Next step is seal all known entrances. We use live traps and set the critters loose in the woods. Good luck
 
"Wocky" is dead! boo hoo!

You killed "Wocky the flying squirrel." When does Moose die? :p

I used my airshotgun to take out a woodpecker that was pecking away at my brother's log cabin. Not quite a "Wocky" but a home invader none the less.
 
See if you can find some stuff called bar bait.It's white and looks to be lard based.I used it for mice and they would only get half way across the garage.
Very toxic probably not the best if you have pets or kids.We got ours from one of the local feed stores.
 
I'm surprised you have squirrel problems with so many cats around. I have a male cat that loves to kill squirrel. Maybe you should start feeding the feral cats squirrel meat! If those cats have any brains at all, they should take care of the squirrel population.

The next best thing is to live trap them then take them for a ride, at least 6 miles or they will make their way back. Do you have any in-laws you don't care for? :evil:
 
Hang a bag of Fox urine in your attic. Rocky and his buddies will gnaw a new hole trying to get outta there!
 
Rat traps baited with peanut butter. I had 5 red squirrels take up residence in the attic. Got the first 3 in less than an hour. The last 2 the next day.

They LOVE peanut butter.
 
Had a Red squirrel chew a hole and get into the wall.. :fire:

Had to stake him out and shotgunned him when he reappeared..

Fixed the hole, and I kill every tree rodent that I see in the yard..

Rat traps with peanut butter and a pistacio work wonders also.. ;)
 
Everyone usually likes squirrels until they start chewing through your house!!

I don't know if you live right in town or not, but my buddy always used a 12 ga on the little buggers. Someone would go in the attic and scare them out. Then when they try to glide across the yard to the tree he would shoot them like they were doves. We had a lot of fun shooting at the flying squirrels.
