Does anyone sell a COMPLETE 20" AR with M16 style buttstock? I'm looking for an already made, quality platform to base an M16A4 style build on. One that comes with a quad Picatinny rail would be nice as well, but not necessary.

BCM A4 and Colt AR 15 A4 come to mind as complete 20" A4 type rifles.

Neither come with the kac rail, though. Plastic, ribbed hand guards is what they come with out of the box.

you just need to look internet is your friend
windham sell a gov 20 service rifle
fn makes one
they are still produced if you look around I think you do not see them at the local gun store rack because the carbine is more popular

I think RRA still offers their "National Match" model -- it looks like a "normal" rifle hand guard, but is actually free floated. Mine is very accurate, I'd think it'd be a good place to start.

I see that FN has an FN 15 "collectors edition" of the M16A4, but it's expensive. I wonder how much better it would be than one of these cheaper 20" guns?

BCM and Colt both make very well built A4 rifles. FN builds one too with the KAC rail but its pretty expensive if I remember correctly.

If you do some shopping around you can find legit FN 20 inch barrels and build your own. I have on that I built on a PSA lower which was right at 600 bucks complete. That is with a Magpul MOE handguard though. That will eventually be replaced with a KAC RAS.

Just curious, if you want to do a build anyway, why are you looking for a complete rifle? Whay not just buy the parts you want?

Where are you getting that? The only thing I'll be doing is changing the stock hanguard to a quad rail and adding an ACOG. I'd rather not build the entire rifle from the ground up.

I'd try and talk you out of a quad rail for a KEYMOD or MLOC alternative -- much less weight and you only put rail sections where you need them instead of everywhere for a "cheese grater" effect unless you also add "rail covers".

I use YHM Customizable forends for that reason. http://yhm.net/accessories/forearms/customizable-free-float-ar-15.html

They are smooth for no "hand grater" action, and I can attach rails only where I want them. Not sure if they are any lighter, but since I already had a bunch of YHM parts from back before KEYMOD and others were around, it made sense for me.

Guys I want a quad rail.

The Marines use them, that must count for something.

I'm only looking for inputs on complete 20" guns on which to base an M16A4 on THANK YOU.

Well, I'm trying to post a picture of my 20" rifle, but Photobucket is on the fritz again, and apparently the file is too big to upload here. Same rail as in my photo above.

To be honest, I keep thinking of swapping it out for a standard A2 forend, since I don't have any extra stuff bolted to it anyway.

ETA: see if it works now.

I used an M16A2 in basic and liked it, other than the fact that it was shot out and jammed during quals.

I like the full length models over the M4s we use now.

You said you wanted to do an M16A4 style build. I assumed that meant you wanted to build an M16A4 style rifle. Seems like a logical assumption based on your original statement. You're right, switching a handguard and mounting an optic is not a "build".

Have you talked to any Marines who have used an alternative? My brother is a Marine and I have a number of friends who are. The Marines use quad rail handguards because they're a government organization, which means they're inefficient and generally slow to improve their methods and gear. Basically all of the innovation and improvements in the AR15/M4 and pistol arena in at least the last 40 years has been in the civilian sector. The military lags behind and eventually adopts some of the improvements that had been available to civilians for years.
