I got that call from a good friend that everyone wants. Asked if I was still looking for a 357 and was I still interested in his Ruger. Yes and yes. I have a handful of revolvers and shoot them a lot but didn't have a cowboy style gun. I really wanted a SAA style with correct sights and half cock loading and all. However, given this Blackhawk option I'm happy for now. IMG_0123.JPG

Thanks! I have a 5 1/2 inch 22LR GP100 and have been wanting to try a longer barrel just for fun. This one is 6 1/2 inch.

Good choice by the OP!

I have several SA revolvers.

My SAA replica with 4.75" has the best balance and is fun to shoot at short range.

The Rugers with their big adjustable sights are a different kettle of fish.

My fixed-sight SAA replica shoots to POA, but its tiny sights are much harder to use than the big Blackhawk sights.

I don't think I shoot my Blackhawks and SBH any better or worse than I shoot my N-frames, and that's the best praise I can give. :)

This is my 357. It's from the mid/late 70's. It's not gorgeous like the OP's, but it's a lot of fun to shoot.

OP, good luck trying to wear that thing out. Mine has apparently been shot a whole lot in the past 40-something years and still locks up tight.

Tallball, I beg to differ! Your Blackhawk is gorgeous too! I could look at it for a while. Maybe I can take mine to the range tomorrow.

In 1983 I was working midnights on a drilling rig. All the hands on my crew were heavy readers of Louis L'amour western novels. We traded books. I owned 68 books in my collection at that time and borrowed 10 or 20 more. Needless to say, I wanted a 45 cowboy gun. Bought a Ruger Super Blackhawk and only kept it a short time because of kids and Christmas. I'm glad I never shot it because I had one box of 45 ACP and I'm not sure what would have happened because i think that was the wrong cartridge.
