I'm in the market for a varmint rifle in .22-250. I'm looking at the follwoing rifles and would appreciate your input on pros/cons of each one. Additionally if there is another good rifle out there please feel free to mention it and I'll research it as well.

Ruger M77 Mark II Target
Remington Model 700 Varmint SF
Savage Model 12 VLP DBM
Weatherby Vanguard SUB-MOA Varmint
Kimber Model 84M Varmint or the ProVarmint

They'll most likely all shoot good groups. :)

If your primary deal is prairie dogs, I'd likely go for a medium or a heavy barrel.

If it's more for groundhogs and coyotes and suchlike, the shooting will be far less frequent. There, I'd go with a fairly light sporter.

I'm sort of a long-barrel, max velocity freak, so I'd look for at least a 24" barrel.

My experience with the .22-250 and the Swift is that out to 400 yards, 55-grain bullets always did what I wanted on both prairie dogs and coyotes.
 
While I am a Remington 700 guy, I use a Ruger MK II Target in .22-250 and have used it for about 15 years. With my handloads she shoots tiny groups year after year.
 
My wife has a Remington 22-250 that shoots factory Winchester ammo in 1" groups. Wish I could say that about all my rifles.
 
My true vote is for a 700 BDL Varmint Special. Of course, you will have to get a used one since they don't make 'em any more....I'll add one to my pile when I find the right one at the right price.
 
FWIW I have the Savage and it is my most accurate and consistent gun. Shoots Winchester- USA white box sub moa

The attached pic is of a 4 shot group (DBM hodls four, I shoot four)

I would choose Savage or T/C Icon precision Hunter, why because it's what I have,;) both .500 rifles(average) I shot a .125 with the Icon yesterday, both are very capable of under .500 if I'm up to it on my good days as I age more difficult to control breathing anything under .500 is mostly shooting ability IMO.
 
Mine a custom built on a Mouser action. Got it used for a nice price and it shoots great. Look around and see what's out there :)

Hitting little targets out there a ways means a scope the will help minimize mirage (coatings) and has minimal chromatic aberration (fringing). That may cost more than the rifle - but may be necessary?
 
Have you handled a Kimber? I have, and it would be my first choice from all you mentioned.

I'd next consider a Winchester Coyote Lite. I used to be a Remington fan till my last one, they leave a lot to be desired in my opinion.

Third choice would be Savage with fourth being Remington.

And I have more then a few Remingtons but the new ones stink. My last was a VS SPS, which shot 1" groups when new. I had to invest in a new stock and trigger to get it shooting.
