The issue is me, but I don't want to change me to fix it.
We added a new target mkiv 22/45 to the fam.
Using my standard grip, I'm engaging the bolt lock with my thumb during fire.
I've now changed to putting my thumb over it, but that prevents last round hold open from working.
No such issues with mkiii which has a different design.
Is this a problem the aftermarket has solved with a smaller / relocated control?
I can't be the only person with this problem.
Thanks in advance.

I hadn't heard of this problem, and I honestly don't have a clue if it's related to the recall. (I'm sooo not a gunsmith). Nonetheless, I'd suggest checking to see if yours has had the recall work done. If not, you might see if Ruger or your gunsmith can look into this at the same time. https://ruger.com/dataProcess/markIVRecall/

Much appreciated, Spats. Definitely not related to the recall, but thanks for bringing that to my attention regardless.

Just to be clear, it's my support-hand thumb that keeps hitting the slide / bolt lock.

Striplin Custom makes a thumb rest which gives your digit a place all its own, safely away from the controls. Mine are aftermarket anyway from Tandemkross and I’ve never had issue both before or after the addition of the rest.

I don't ordinarily go in for flashy guns, and have a whole lot of parkerized finishes in my safe. But that, my friend, is one wicked-looking Mark IV! Does she shoot as good as she looks?

Absolutely…I think…in someone else’s hands yes. The below taken before thumb rest installation, my astigmatism (and poor technique) account for most of the group size using a 3 MOA RDS. Bad shot or not, it’s a fun gun to run says everyone I’ve handed it off to.

Edited to add that most of my collection is far from flashy, I chose red in hopes of appealing to my children who aren’t always interested in shooting as much as I am. Being full-on gaudy has helped in that quest and truthfully, I mind it less that I thought I would.

15 yards resting wrists on a rear bag. Aguila SE standard velocity.

With age I have learned to accept my shortcomings which seem to become shorter every day. Other than eyesight improvement with cataract removal (huge) everything else seems to be in sharp decline. I used to shoot at 4" gongs at 25 yards. Now I use 6 and 8 inch ones at 10 yards to keep my hit percentage up. :notworthy:

I am not too much on flash but did rig up a blue MK III 22/45 lite to where it was fairly flashy but for some reason it hasn't resonated with the junior members of my family. Then I added a red muzzle brake, red red dot sight, and not finding a red grip, I painted the factory one red with Krylon Fusion on a S&W 15-22. That one got the immediate attention of #2 GG daughter which was my intention but I lost a gun as she immediately claimed it. At least she lets me shoot it. She is afraid I won't keep furnishing her ammo if she doesn't.
