I would like to get a .22LR conversion for my Taurus PT 1911, but all the kits I have looked at have not said for sure if they will work on a Taurus, and before I but one I want to be sure it will work.

Does anyone know if there are any kits that will work on a Taurus PT 1911, and if so which ones

Nothing special about the Taurus that would prevent any of the current production conversion kits from working. Are you looking for one for cheap plinking or tack driving accuracy? Kimber and Ceiner are both good, although the Kimber is easier to find.

Ok, we tried it and the ciener kit won't work on our PT1911. It fits on fine but the slide won't retract. Not sure why yet, we'll examine it more and see what the obstruction is. It worked on my Kimber and a Dan Wesson Patriot. I don't have any other brands of .22 kits to try.
Here is a thread on how a guy modified his Kimber .22 kit (which are ciener designs IIRC) to fit a PT1911: http://forum.m1911.org/archive/index.php/t-26826.html
And a thread on the results of a Marvel kit on a PT1911 that seemed to work fine: http://forum.m1911.org/archive/index.php/t-28643.html

The PT1911 uses a different type of firing pin blocking safety than say a 80's series style one , thats why the kits don't work on them . The links DoubleTap posted have worked for most people on modding their kits .

Old Thread I know. I just got a ciener kit, and it was initially tight to immobile. Once I determined there was no permanent obstruction, I tapped it lightly to see the wear points, polished those, oiled it, and it works fine now. No need to remove ejector, or grind the slide as on the links posted.

All .22 kits need some break in. I have a Ciener I use on my Kimber, and I put it on my dad's SA Mil-Spec, and it was bindingly tight. I strongly suspect that if I shoot 500 rounds through it it will be fine. Also when the kit was new, I had to use Stingers or Velocitors to get it to cycle reliably. But now that it's loosened up a little, I can crank through 400 mini-mags without a stoppage.

The incompatibility issue can exist, the most notable one that comes to mind is Paras with the feed ramp. I was told that Ciener DOES in fact make a kit for them, but they only sell them directly, and their customer service.......sucks. I have never heard of a kit specific for the Taurus, and I wouldn't go to the trouble described in the links above to make one work. I would rather build up a new frame from scratch. (If the OP still cares after all this time.)
