My .221 rifle is the most accurate rifle I own. Its quiet, the recoil is light enough to watch the impact from an 18X scope. Range out 200yrds +. & its rimless.
Since you already have more powerful varmint rifles and don't need the extra power of the Bee, I would get a CZ527 in Hornet. Having it reamed out to the K Hornet is always an option for a little more power. The CZ527 is also available in .221 Fireball for more power. I would avoid the Ruger M77 Hornets, I know two guys that sold them for accuracy issues. The Cooper rifles are great but the owner supported Obama.
Dan Cooper was also fired. That is enough for me buy from them (whereas before i would not have), if i had the money and wanted a rifle like they sell.
if brass is one of your concerns, and if i were going to have a gun built on something, I would look at the 256 WIN MAG,its 357 necked down, how cheap is that,,
but if its a company rifle. I go with 221,I know CZ has a really nice rifle in 221,,I have 221 in T/C,,easy on the ears. easy to load. But Thats what I do.
I have both the Hornet and 218 Bee. Both are fun rifles to shoot.
The Hornet seems to be thriving while the Bee is less popular. Reloading manuals show the Bee to be superior, however in practical performance, I can't tell any difference.
I had the 218 Bee rechambered to 218 Mashburn Bee. The Mashburn Bee has significantly better performance.
If you want to shoot standard cartridges, I would opt for the Hornet. If shooting a "wildcat" peeks your interest, the Mashburn really performs well, approaching the 222 in perfromance.
Great input thanks. I was looking at the Bee because I wanted something a little different, however, the 221 Fireball discussion has kinda flipped that same switch. I will look hard at the 221.
