Typically I have posted to ask questions, however tonight I will offer up some info. I was out with the chronograph earlier and as long as it was set up, I ran some .22 LR through it.

All shots were fired from a Ruger MkII with 6 7/8" barrel. The Blazer group was a little larger than the Std Vel however they were pretty close.

CCI Blazers 20 shots
lo 1096 fps
hi 1159 fps
ave 1132 fps
SD 15.4

CCI Standard Velocity 20 shots
lo 942
hi 1001
ave 973
SD 15.2

Chronographs are fun, aren't they?

Notice how velocity is no longer the end all, as it was back prior to the 1980's. The great wild cat era was post WW2 up to the time of cheap chronographs. Then shooters were able to take their rifles out to the range and find out that most velocity claims were hype.

Cool numbers. Blazer through my 5" MkIII is solidly subsonic. I forget the exact number. I got 1200fps from my 20" Rem 597. I remember that because I was impressed that the advertised number was dead on (at least for that rifle and those shots)

Have you chrono'd the CCI Mini-Mag and CCI .22 AR? They are listed at 1435 and 1400 respectively. Pretty much all I shoot, and curious if they are "as listed".

.
There's a CCI ".22 AR"? What's the advertised velocity of that round [Edit: Thank you, Normandy], and in what length barrel? For that matter, what length barrel has cci used to arrive at the velocity numbers printed on their boxes?

Or is the only thing worth considering the choice to use high velocity vs. subsonic? Generally speaking, I use subsonic in my rifles and the HV stuff in my semi-auto pistols.

I've actually found most manufacturer published velocities are pretty close so long as the firearm you're testing them in has a comparable barrel length.

What does tend to vary quite a bit from published numbers are handloads. This is, of course, evident simply by looking at a few different manuals and the respective recorded velocities with a given load.

I should have included:

CCI .22LR "AR" is shown on the package as 1400 fps.
CCI Mini-Mag shows muzzle velocity of 1435.

All the video evidence I've seen of hyper velocity 22 LR is always slower than advertised, with Aguila Supermaximum being the worst culprit. 1750 fps? PFFT! Never seen it go above 1650.
