Im looking to buy a a new 22 rifle. Ive had my share of center fire rifles and hand guns but i just cant afford to shoot them any more ,other than deer season ,ive got a 22single action revolver but it keeps eating through cylinder hand flat springs, who makes a good economy priced 22 rifle that comes with a mounted scope,I don't care what action it is ,or what the stock is.thanks

If you want something that will chew up any ammo you feed it, get a Ruger 10/22. It doesnt come mounted with a scope, but you can pick up a cheapo for $40 bucks. The only thing you'll want to look into is a few extra mags since it's semi auto you can tend to get a bit trigger happy with it.

For an "Economy .22" there are really only two choices.

A. Ruger 10/22
B. Marlin Model 60

Niether comes with a scope, but one can easily be mounted to them. The Ruger has tons of aftermarket parts to turn it into just about anything you would ever want, the Marlin can't be upgraded as easily but is far more accurate out of the box.

If you want a good bolt action, try one of the Savage MKII packages that come with a cheapo scope, specifically the MKIIFVXP. Synthetic stocked with a bull barrel.

Read the reviews on the MKIIFV or MKIIBV (both don't come with scope but you can get a nice rimfire scope with adjustable objective for less than 100 bucks), for example this link:

If you want the cheapest option, try the MKIIF. It is the same as the "V" models above except its has a tapered barrel. Mine shoots almost as good groups at 100 meters as my CZ452 Varmint.

For semi autos, it will be hard to beat the Marlin 60. Mine groups 5 shots of Winchester bulk Dynapoints into 1.5 inches at 100 meters, on a good calm day of course...just like my Savage MKIIF. 12 million satisfied Marlin 60 customers know it is the best deal in a 22 LR semi-auto.

Dont let that "ruger 10/22 not as accurate" fool you, I was able to pick the top off of those 16 oz soda bottles with the stock sights and cci mini mags with the cheapest ruger 10/22 there is out of the box. Out past 50 yards it does give up a good bit of ground, but a 22 past 50 yards is asking a bit much.

I'd go with a Marlin Model 60 (under barrel tubular magazine). Buy a modest priced rimfire scope and have someone mount it for you.

Nothing wrong with the Ruger 10/22. They are just not target rifles out of the box. They are fun rifles and are very good for small game hunting and plinking.

what is every ones thoughts about the marlin Model 925R it comes with a scope mounted?

Im going with a Remington 597. I have two 22's with scopes, both old and i dont want to keep firing them every weekend. My Stevens semi auto keeps eating parts, getting old!

The Ruger 10/22 is pretty good. I figure mine will pay for itself through ammo savings in a few months.

I recently got a Henry lever-action .22 and it's been a blast. Very smooth action, very accurate out of the box, and it eats absolutely anything I feed it. Also handles .22 shorts.

I liked the Marlins also, but the Henry just felt like it was made for me.

The standard model is around $250. I got the Frontier model with the octagon barrel for $315.

As was recommend above the savage MKII's are hard to beat out of the box when it comes to accuracy. Go with savage or pay $500 or more for an accurate rifle like the savage.

Savage MKII-F 22lr from WalMart is only $127+Tax...They are quite accurate and there's a fix for the trigger that's really easy to do.

My kimber is ridiculously expensive but I love it. Hundreds of whistle pigs, squirrls, fox, birds, etc. have met their demise from this rifle.

anything marlin or savage , with a scope package, will be fine. Ruger does not make a 22 rifle package. If you can afford a cz, even though they don't make a package deal, then get that. all the above, in semi auto, or bolt action.

Take a good look at the CZ 453. CZ makes a fine rifle at a good price point. Why buy something you need to rebuild for accuracy/reliability? CZs are good right out of the box. JMHO.
