22 S&W revolver, when made and value?

My wife's grandmother left her a 6 shot S&W pearl handled revolver. 22 LONG CTG on one side of barrel Smith & Wesson on other side. On top of barrel it says Smith & Wesson Springfield MASS. USA Patented Feb 8,08 Sept 14 09 Dec 23 14. Any idea of when it was made and is it of any value (other than sentimental). Serial # 512XXX

Are you sure it says ".22 LONG" and not ".22 Long Rifle"?
(and, by the way, you have the negative or what ever in backwards. The cylinder release is on the left side of the frame on S&W's)

It either says 22 or 32 LONG CTG. Hard to read as it is worn. Also when I open the chamber I found a number, which I assume might be the model number 39513

Edit: It must say 32 LONG CTG as I just put a 22 cartridge in it and it's way too small to fit in the gun.

It is a Smith & Wesson .32 Hand Ejector, Third Model. Some 271,000 of that model were made from 1911-1942, with serial numbers from 263001 to 271531.

The gun appears to be nickel plated with some peeling or rusting. Better pictures would be needed for any real evaluation, but because so many were made they are not high dollar guns. Values range from a low of about $150 to a top of $600+.

Thanks for the information. The serial Number (I'm assuming it is the number on the bottom of the handle) is clear and is 512XXX which doesn't match up with the serial numbers you listed.

Sorry, my error. The serial number range for the .32 HE, Third Model is 263001-534532. The 271,531 is the number of that model made.
