I just inherited an old Rem700 chambered in 222 Rem. Rifle is in excellent condition, but I want to re-scope it with a nice Leupold and work a few loads up for it. I just bought 100 new Win cases and am looking for dies now. Do these rifles have slower twists for lighter bullets?
Any load info would be appreciated!

My Sako HB .222 Mag has a 1 in 14 twist, and anything over 55 Grs is iffy, depending on the velocity. You may have a 1 in 12, but I am guessing. Anyway, you should be able to shoot anything from 35's to perhaps 55's, with 40 to 50 being more optimum for the caliber, IMHO.

Try H-322, 4198, or perhaps the new 8208 where they tried to duplicate the old T322, or just plain T-32 surplus powder.

But any powder that works well in .223 should work well for you.

Ahhhh - Faster twists are for heavier bullets.

I think your rifle has a slow 1-14" barrel, and you will be restricted to lighter bullets.
Best results will probably be with 50-53 grain SP or HP bullets, although it will handle 55-60 SP, and the 63 grain Sierra Semi-pointed.

60 grain Plastic Tip boat-tail bullets probably will not stabilize

I had a 722 years ago that would shoot 10-shot groups in one small ragged hole all day long.

Best load for it was a 50 grain Horn SPSX over 20.0 grains IMR-4198.

There are probably better more accurate bullets available now, but the SX worked best on coyotes at .222 velocity.

+1 on rcmodel's comments.

It is a 1in14" twist, and the 222 Rem will shine with 50gr bullets. I use 21.6gr of H322 with the now obsolete Nosler expander 50gr, in my M722. Runs around 3000fps with the 26" barrel.

21.6gr of H322
Ahhh, thats what I was looking for! I have an 8lb jug of 322 with this rifle's name on it! Lol.
Now I know to keep the bullets 50grns and lighter. Thanks for the replies Guys!
