Have searched here, as well as webtrail, but yet to find details about forming 222mag. brass from ruger 204.. Understand that the parent case of the 204 was indeed a 222mag. case, but would like to know some tips on resizing.
Would it be best to use an M2 die 1st to open up the neck to .224, and then use my FL sizer to set shoulder back, or vise-versa? See that folks on GB and places feel the 222mag. brass has large quantities of gold in them... Don't mind, and will buy several bags of 204, just want some 1st hand knowledge of technique, and case lose due to hydraulic crimps etc.. Thanks.

I haven't formed 222 Remington Magnum cases from 204 Ruger cases but found 7mm Remington Magnum cases were easily formed from 264 Winchester Magnum cases simply by running them through the full length sizeing die.

I haven't tried it either, I have always just bought .222 Mag brass, but even before this craziness, it was a seasonal run kind of thing. With all the demand for more common calibers keeping them busy, I imagine a run of .222 Mag brass is the last thing on their minds.

The last 100 cases I bought were from a THR member. No one else seemed interested in them. The 100 I am shooting now I picked up at a gun show.

If you are going to shoot .222 Mag, you have to keep your eyes peeled and get it when the getting is good. That may be awhile for new brass.

When I first bought mine I bought an extra box of 500 brass and put it back. I still have it. I also have a box of 500 new .222 brass, but foolishly sold that rifle.

Good luck with finding or converting brass.

Im deff. in the market for some, lol and would be a very happy camper if some soul would either feel sorry for me, or for the sake of keeping the ole 222mag. alive, would sell me some...hint/hint.lol

was going to post a ISO in the "for sale", but apparently I don't meet the criteria? Dunno if I should merely put an ISO thread under this category> thanks

Just to confirm, sizing 204 brass to 222mag was one of the easiest transitions ive made. Using Unique case lube I learned to pretty much lube the 204 slightly below the shoulder, or you will get many tiny hydraulic dimples, or at least I did. 1st 2 should chamber and fire with np. and fire form the dimples out to fit my chamber. The remaining 6 cases sized beautifully, using only my 222mag. FL size die. Didn't have a 22cal. M2 die on hand, but mayu get one just for giggles..But there again, the FL sizer with standard expander button did so well, probably no need..So for anyone needing 222mag brass, No need paying the price of gold, as some groups are asking, just grab/order some ruger 204. and size..
