.223/.308 lever

Ok, not that I dont have other itches to scratch, but....

I got rid of my only lever last year.

When its cold out, I miss that ratcheting action slaming the cartridge home.

But I don't have a desire- I think ever, at this point, of tooling up for another cartridge I am not already stocked up for.

So, with that said.......

Recommendations on a .223 or .308 lever ?

The only .223 lever action I'm aware of is the BLR and don't know if they still make one in that chambering.

New in .308 you have the BLR; used there is the Savage 99 and Win. M88. Both are discontinued.

Pretty hard to beat a 99 lever, they can be hard to find and expensive but 308 is fairly common chambering for them

Not quite. More like the .300 Savage. Basically it's a healthy step up from the .30-30 and is designed around a spitzer type bullet so it vastly outshines the .30-30 at all ranges. It's down a couple hundred FPS from the .308. The deer I shot this year with mine didn't notice the difference.

If you want a .308 lever that is fairly readily available, the BLR is pretty much it.

I was just going off what I had seen advertised on Marlin's website a few weeks ago when I was checking out lever guns.

Not to be impertinent, but have you considered a pump rifle? The old rock-solid Remington 760 can be found in .308 (and 30'06, .270, 35Rem, .300Savage, .243)

I have an older (steel receiver) Browning lever in 308. I like it better than the Marlin and Winchester guns I used to have because the Browning has a detachable magazine. Also, the entire trigger group follows the lever when ejecting/chambering a round. That prevents you from pinching your fingers, unlike the other two. Also, the bolt has locking lugs like a bolt action.

It's a great gun and available in the calibers you want.

Sako made a .308 Winchester lever action called "Finnwolf" that is not very common. I know nothing about them other than they are right purdy.
