is there a nice looking 223 semi automatic rifle out there somewhere, that has a wood stock? besides the $1000 BAR that is. ruger mini's are ugly as sin, and i will confess to looking at ar's. but i really like beautiful wood stocked rifles. it would be great if it would accept an ar style magazine, but that is not a necessity. yes, high prices keep me away from guns. otherwise, i would have probably just given in and bought an ar style rifle. i am on a fixed income, and just can not justify $1000-1500 for a rifle.

Other than the Ruger Ranch rifle, I can't think of another .223 semi auto that is wood stocked. You mentioned the Browning BAR, but I don't recall them ever offering that rifle in .223.
Now there are a number of nice wood stocked semi auto rifles in .243...............

.223 Ak clones, but something tells me that's not what you want.

The Remington 7615 is pump action, but is well thought of for speed and accuracy and it takes AR-15 magazines.

It's a bit spendy, but Volquartsen makes a .223 called the Evolution. Kind of a nice idea, uses an M1 carbine type short stroke piston with an M16 type bolt. Uses AR mags. It's supposed to be a pretty remarkable shooter, though for over $2K it ought to be.
