Unable to control myself any longer I have given into my whims and bought a slick sided 22/9mm AR upper receiver, a rimfire bolt group and barrel collar, a couple of magazines then ordered a barrel from Beyer Barrels.

These things can be found at Righttobeararms.com. I have used before and found the parts to be of a descent enough deal for me. So, I relented. I know I’ll feel better not thinking about it, and I’ll stop skewing the numbers on visits to the site.;)

I haven’t seen a rimfire barrel for sale for some time. Like I say, I’ve been shopping for awhile. So I happened across an old thread here and saw Beyer’s name mentioned, so I thought I’d call him up.
Little did I know, I would be talking directly to Clint himself! I caught him at a late lunch:oops:, yet he still answered. He took my order as he microwaved something. We even had a great conversation afterwards, just about stuff. Great sense of humor! It was probably half an hour when I heard another desk phone ring and we said adios.
He tried to talk me into a hot pink one, but I resisted.:D Just regular black, for now. And in a 7.5” 1/16.
I got what I wanted but I get too chatty and wasted my chance at talking to a guru seriously.
(Not wasted, I know he had a good conversation too.:))
But, I still have questions I couldn’t find answers to and what better place to ask them than here!

And don’t let me overwhelm you, I ask a lot of questions, you can answer just one if you want.

So without further ado, and in no particular order,

How will I be attaching the barrel collar to the chamber liner?
Is the return spring in the buffer tube enough support for the conversion bolt?
Does the conversion bolt stay in the upper when it’s open?
I only wanted an upper, because I always seem to build the same lower so I’ll just use it on my pistol receiver is that feasible with this upper?
Should it have its own lower?
Will the bolt catch still work?
Would a binary trigger work with these?
My intention is to use this suppressed, are the bolt kits tunable?
And especially, are there any speed loaders for this type of magazine?
Anything to look out for while assembling the upper?
Has anyone used a 1/9 twist barrel?

That might do it for now. I know I’ll think up something else…

Barrel collar just slides on the barrel stub, and you can put it on by inserting the entire BCG like a normal one. It'll stay in the upper unless you pull back on the charging handle too far with the upper off the lower. Don't know about speed loaders, but I also used a 9mm/22lr slick side upper casting for my recently finished 22 upper and its awesome.

A 1-9 twit will be too fast for most 22lr ammo. Normally all 22lr barrels are 1-16 twist. Unless of course you are shooting the Aquila 60 grain ammo.

Bore Buddy makes an adjustable bolt weight. Other than that there is no way to tune an AR22 bolt.

A 22 upper will work on any AR15 lower

Normally the buffer and spring are enough but sometimes you need a pressure plug. You won't know until you shoot your build. I do run a pressure plug in my two AR22 rifles just for piece of mind.

No the bolt catch will not work with the Atchisson/Ciener/CMMG style bolts. And yes the Right to Bear barrels and bolts are made by CMMG

Check the AR pistol and rimfire sections on ARFCOM about binary triggers.

Assembling a dedicated 22 upper is the same as any other upper. The only difference is that a 22 does not use a gas tube. You should still clock the barrel nut at the proper torque range to get everything to line up though.

I haven't really looked into a speed loader since the Black Dog magazines are pretty easy to load.

Since you are building a pistol, you don't even need to use a buffer tube at all. You can use an end cap instead. That is what I did with my 4.5" AR22 build.

Thanks for the replies fellas.

Both of them.:D

I received my package o’ fun from RTB today.
The upper is exceptionally nice and fits tightly on two of my lowers.
The bolt group is nicely finished and operates smoothly when held in the upper and moved.
The RTB magazines seem iffy. They move not easily, we’ll see.
The CMMG charging handle is, plastic.
I went back to check the listing and it did not state its material construction. Bad on me, when it’s too good a deal, there’s some reason why.:(
Oh well. It might work for a long time, who knows.

After mocking the things I’ve got together it all makes sense now. I suppose I was a bit excited having never seen one in person, and having to actually purchase anything more interesting than budget and mediocre to see and handle it, let alone shoot it, I was kind of in the dark. The light is on now.;)

I wait now for a barrel, as I buy a new charging handle and find a hand guard.
(Hmm, I guess I don’t like the plastic one. Freudian slip?)

I have a few red dots and a scope to use. Or some reasonable flip ups. A six inch rimless, stainless suppressor finishes the front. I think an Aero S-One may be nice here. I’ll have to see if it will fit.

Ahh, ARFCOM. I am reminded why I come here.;)

I assume if the ammunition has enough energy to cock the hammer, it matters not how it’s released.
So a fun trigger would work, but I may need a another range fun meme lower, because, obviously.

Hmmm, I'll have to keep Beyer in mind. I have a slick side .22lr lightweight upper build that matches my HD gun, I'm just waiting on a pencil 16" .22lr barrel to show up on the market. His aluminum barrels might just do the trick.

Well, just waiting on said barrel now.

I like the ARstoner light weight handguard.
Now, if Midway could at least put the damn thing in a box, it wouldn’t be the only damaged part on the gun.
No dinged enough to return, definitely could have been avoided. Three metal parts in a bubble wrap envelope? Come on! At least the end plate didn’t fall out of the hole left from denting the rail…

I couldn’t handle the CMMG handle. I got a Strike instead. I’d rather have silicone filler in that to prevent jammed cartridges, than a plastic charger.
I have a short scope that will work just fine at the short ranges this upper will be shooting.

Look for a range report soon!:)

For testing purposes, on one charging handle I used the Bore Buddy insert and on another I filed it with RTV. Both methods work to keep empty cases from getting stuck between the bolt and charging handle but the RTB does not last and has to periodically be redone (or touched up).

I agree about not using the CMMG plastic charging handle. But I also shoot left handed and like to use ambi charging handles.
