.22lr Scope? (For Marlin 60 Glenfield)

My father has given me his old Marlin 60 Glenfield.
Since my eyes aren't what they used to be, any recommendations on a scope (max distance fifty yards). Mainly use for target/plinking.

Since this is not an expensive firearm, I don't want to put on a scope that is more expensive than the actual gun.

Suggestions of what to look for / avoid?

A few years ago, I put a very cheap Bushnell (~$40) 3-9x32 on my dear old J.C. Higgins .22, which is actually a Marlin 81 with Sears' nomenclature on it. The scope has been entirely adequate. It isn't very kewl, but it works well.

For non-critical range work, a Simmons 22Mag 4x isn't a bad deal at $30.

Check out ebay listings for 22 scopes. Many are brand new. I just picked up a Bushnell 3-9x 22RF scope via ebay. Have not mounted it on a rifle yet, but everything looks good. Made in China though.

I usually put 4x scopes on my rimfires with 1" diameter tubes. The 3-9x is an exception. I wanted to try out one with higher power on a target grade sporter to see how I like it. It is about the same size as some of my larger 4x 22 scopes.

I have a marlin older model 60 as well, I too am looking to put a decent $40.00-$60.00 scope on mine. Hows do they mount on? are there different mounts for different scopes?

Can someone reccomend a decent setup for me? and where to get it at?

Im looking at the bushnell X4 on ebay but they dont look that great, what is the next step up?

The most important thing to check on your 22 rifle is it is grooved for a scope mount. These are grooves along the top of the receiver that the mount attaches too. If it is not grooved, the you have to have it drilled and tapped for more traditional scope mounts. The grooves have been around since at least 1968; so a gun can be pretty old and still be grooved for traditional 22 scope mounting. Always get a minimum of 1" diameter scope. One inch= 25.4 mm.

I have a Redfield 4x on one of my 22's that I like. I would assume that the next step up would be either Nikon or Burris. Leupold makes a 22 scope as well. Check their website and then check Walmart if they carry them.

I think it's a Bushnell. Not sure now, but it was $9.88 + tax at Gander Mountain. Cheapest scope they had, (came with the rings) it's 4x, mounted on the Marlin Model 60 that my family and I use to take out armies of invading paper targets, ballons and clay pigeons.

We've put 3,000+ rounds and other then occasionally having to re-adjust the zero, No problems.

You can probably find the same/similar thing at Wal-Mart for around the same price.

I'll echo the recommendation for a Simmons. They make a decent scope for a fair price. I have a Simmons 8-Point on my AR-15 and it serves me well as a varmint gun.

The important thing is to buy a scope that is made for a rimfire rifle. There IS a difference.

Im not even sure what model the Bushnell scope I bought is, I posted a link above. I was hoping someone can let me know if I got a decent deal or even if thats a decent scope or a .22 rifle?. I paid $31.00 for it.

Hard to say without knowing which model it is. You didn't get ripped off but you probably could have bought one new for nearly the same price. I think you may have bought the fixed power version of the Sportsman Air Rifle scope. See the cabelas link below.

Well the scope that I bought in the details it says its "Bushnell 4 power by 32 millimeter objective", Is the "objective" the model?

Can you elaborate on this statement... One would think that a scope for a higher recoiling rifle would be better...
