22lr scopes

Hi,

I was curious as to what some manufactures label their scopes. For example Bushnell and Tasco have "Rimfire scopes" and "22 Lr scopes". What's the difference? Are the rimfire scopes designed to withstand the recoil of 22 WMR and 17HMR whereas the 22 lr scopes are just meant for the 22LR?

Also what's a middle of the range scope that I can mount on a marlin 925?

A good quality rimfire scope will have the parallax zeroed out at maybe 75 yards instead of the 150 or so for a non-adjustable centerfire scope. A cheap rimfire scope is, well, cheap. My .22s get the same scopes my bigbores do, but with parallax adjustment whereever available.

I use the exact same make/model scope on my .22LR as my .17HMR, no problems with either.

I think rimfire scopes are parallax free at 25 yds.

Leupold says 60 yards for their 2-7x rimfire model.

Parallax adjustment by manufacturer is usually 50-60 yds on the rimfire scopes. The Adjustable Objective (AO) scopes have the ability for the shooter to adjust the scope. But I find unless I am under 25 yds, I tend not to worry about it. Some manufactures will adjust the setting in a centerfire scope if it is returned. Redfield used to do this for a small charge as I recall.

"22LR" scopes is probably a internet or larger distributer marketing thing as far as search terms go. Rimfire scopes are for rimfires; any rimfire. But most mount regular centerfire scopes on rifles chambered for 22wmr and 17hmr rifles since they are often shot at 100 yds or more.

Scopes that are called airgun scopes are supposedly set up to be parallax free at someplace between 25 and 50 yds inclusive, and many have adjustable objectives marked to ranges closer than centerfire scopes. Also they're supposed to be built to withstand the back/forth recoil forces of airguns and would work just fine on a .22 rimfire rifle.

I also have a question regarding Bushnell series scopes.

Is there a big difference between the 22 rimfire series and the Rifleman series? I'm leaning towards the 22 rimfire series because it comes with dovetail rings for my Marlin 925. Is the sportsman worth the extra money? I would also have to buy some rings and mounts for it right?

"...What's the difference?..." Mostly the mounts. Grooves etc. Any rimfire scope will do nicely for a .22 Mag or a LR.

If you have a grooved receiver, use it.

It takes two bases and four screws out of the equation.

Do you have to use some sort of "lock-tite" for the grooves so they don't slide around?
