Has anyone ever seen published load data for H4895 and Sierra 85 gr bullets for the 260 rem? I'm shooting them with 40.0 gr and just wondering how that would compare to published stuff.
Apparently there are still some 260 shooters out there as I saw some interest in another 260 post. Also it looks like this bullet may be discontinued, which is sad because it is the one that shoots best in both my 260's. It's odd that it works best in both my guns since it looks like pet loads for this cartridge are all over the map historically.

Sierra data for the .260 WCF and their 85-grain hollow point with IMR-4894 shows a maximum charge of 46.2 grains for 3500 fps in a 24” barrel. Note this is NOT H4895, which is normally - but not always - considered to be slightly faster than IMR-4895. Examples: when used in the .30-06 the H4895 maximum charges are several grains below that shown for IMR-4895. Yet, in .250-3000 data the difference is just 0.1 grains with some bullets. All data presented is from the same Sierra Manual V.

The maximum load I listed above might be excessive in your .260 using H4895. I do not suggest you use it, it is just for your reference.

Update to above post:

Sierra’s current online manual lists a maximum load of H4895 under the 85-grain bullet is 42.6 grains for 3450 fps. As I stated above, using IMR-4895 data would give excessive pressures with that bullet. The OP’s load of 40.0 grains H4895 is 7% under the Sierra maximum charge weight.

Ok if the online manual has a listing that is great! I just had some printed material where H4895 was missing for the 260 rem. I thought it might be around 42-43 grains. I'm getting about 3200 fps with 40.0 grains. Also might try to download this and Hodgdon says you can go to 65% of max (I think) for H4895. Thanks for checking.

If you go to the Sierra website you will find email addresses for their staff. They are all active reloaders and will reply with suggestions. Be sure to give them barrel information (rate of twist, etc.).
