I want a bolt gun in 270 (I think). I want something that looks nice with pretty wood (laminated?) and clean lines, is well made, and accurate. I really like monte carlo look. I like the look of the Rem 700 laminate varmint guns but they don't make them in 270.

I think a Remington 700 BDL looks like a classic hunting rifle--sleek, elegant, and deadly.

(That being said, I hunt with a Savage 110.)

I like my M77 All Weather (in .270) a lot. It's durable and has taken a handfull of deer. It's available with a Laminate stock too.

That being said, if I were buying a rifle today, I'd take a look at the CZ 550 and the Weatherby Vanguard before buying. The Vanguard comes with a Monte Carlo stock and adjustable trigger while the CZ has a pretty interresting sounding (haven't heard any reviews) set trigger. Both should be well within your price range.

To my eyes, the new Remington M700 CDL looks really nice. I just handled one in .35 Whelen and left wishing they made it left handed in that cartridge. I know they offer it in .270, as well as its parent case.

I have a Weatherby Vanguard Deluxe in .270 Win that I love. Dark glossy figured walnut with rosewood fore-end tip. Monte Carlo stock. Accurate & beautiful. That's my vote.
