3" 20 ga

Anyone shoot 3" mag 20 ga slugs , with a rifled barrel . I was thing about getting a 50 cal Encore and thought that a rifled barrled 3" 20 would make a good deer gun . I have heared that they shoot better groups then a 12 ga .

I use a 2 3/4" Lightfield in my 20 gauge rifled Ultra Slug Hunter and the only complaints about it have been I only have so many permits I can legally fill and I filled them all.

Birdhunter1 , what kind of groups do you shoot with it at 100 yards .

3 shots @ 1 1/4 - 1 1/2 at 100 yards.

Shot it enough to know at 100 yards it will do it if I have a good rest, usually I use shooting sticks, a sandbag or coat rolled up and laying on the ground or over the hood of my truck.

I think the whole 20s being more accurate or better for long distance than 12s is a little far fetched.

That said though I would go with the 20 because the difference in accuracy and distance is negligible and the recoil is significantly less. Both 20 and 12 will kill deer fast.
