I bought a case of this ammo thining it would be a good deer round. Would the 150grn work on a WA Elk?

In my opinion, the Powerpoints are very soft. I'd use one on deer (eastern whitetail) with no qualms, but for Muleys and Elk, I'd really want a stronger (and heavier) bullet.

My use on "big stuff" load for an '06 is either a 165 Trophy Bonded (factory) or a handloaded 180 grain premium bullet (Grand Slams or Barnes X).

If I were you, I'd buy a couple of boxes of Speer Nitrex or Winchester FailSafe rounds and rezero the rifle when it's Elk time. Use the Powerpoints for deer and practice.

I'll second that, Elk are bigger and you should use a bigger, better made bullet. PMC now loads barnes X bullets 180gr in there preminum line. The smallest I'll use is a 165 premium bullet. In fact I have the new 165gr Hornady Interbond's loaded in my '06. They chrono's at 2800 fps and +3" at 100yds is dead on at 300yds. Just incase I need to shoot across a clear-cut.
Just hit them in the right spot and you shouldn't have a problem
Good luck

With a case of 150's, I'd practice, practice, practice from as many different positions as possible.

Thanks for the tips guys. I gave 5 bucks a box for this ammo from an out of business sports shop thinking it would be good for the WA deer. I'll think I'll use it for deer and step up to the 165 when I'm lucky enough to go after an Elk. I'll also keep practicing with it.

Al,

Is the PowerPoint any better than the Core-Lokt?

Shooting .300 Win Mag and .35 Remington I have never recovered a mostly intact bullet from a whitetail or a hog. Ever single one has lost its jacket and usually had major separation of the core.

the only reason I still use it is that I still have several boxes hanging around.

Caution: .300 Win Mag 150 grain Core-Lokts act like varmint rounds upon hitting a deer,i.e, they blow up. Boy, is that a mess.

Just before elk season grab a box or two of Federal High Energy loaded with 180 gr. Nosler Partitions and zero your rifle.
The High Energy loads will make your .30-06 stand up and act like a .300 H&H. The Nosler Partitions provide the best of both worlds by expanding to scramble the boiler room and then partially sheds the front core allowing the rear core to penetrate deeper usually exiting the animal leaving two holes to bleed from. They don't tear up meat either.
