I was just on gunbroker and saw a box of .30 cal. 280 ball ammo. The heaviest ammo for a .30-06 that I ever saw was 220. I should have saved the link.

What gives?

Bet it was a type-o................................ Should have been 180 instead of 280??:D
Some folks just have trouble using a keyboard??:banghead:

There was an outfit that made 250 gr .30s and 150 gr 6mms.
They used 200 and 100 gr jackets, respectively, but the bottom half of the core was tungsten. The front half was lead for expansion.

This was milsurp USA ammo. I was on gunbroker looking for 22 hornet and this ammo was mixed with .30 carbine, .22 hornet, .303 British and .30.

It showed pictures of all the boxes and the .30-06 .30 clearly read 280 gr. I figured it was a misprint, but thought it interesting to share.

I traced your searches and found a link with the photo.

New one on me. I've never seen or heard of any .308 bullets heavier than 250 gr. Says there are still 8 rounds in the box. Made by Remington, I wonder if contacting them might provide some answers.

Just a SWAG, but it might have been an experimental round designed to defeat armor at one point. I know that during WW-1 some old elephant rifles were used to defeat light armor on tanks of the era. The .50 cal was invented for this purpose, but the war ended before it saw service.

Well, you just gotta buy it and examine the actual ammunition.
It would, of course, be naughty for the Army to shoot at foreigners with soft points, so it must have been for a very special application.

I need to clarify something in my earlier post. I said this
I traced your searches and found a link with the photo.

I posted that at 5 AM, shortly after waking and it was a poor choice of words on my part and has caused some confusion. It would be more accurate to say I retraced the OP's searches to find the link others were asking about. Nothing more than going onto gunbroker and doing a search for 22 Hornet ammo. It only took a few minutes to find the link the OP was talking about. I was trying to help, and my choice of words caused some confusion.

Sorry about that.
