Win 30-30 Hornady 160 FTX coal 2.578, with 38gr leverevolution. Would it be safe?
If I seat them so I can see the edge of the cannelure I'm out to 2.650, coal. At 2.535 I'm past the ogive. Used three different brass trimmed too 2.028, same results all.

Max load from Hodgdon on line Data with Hornady 160 FTX and LVR is 35.5 grains compressed with COL of 2.550. So I would say No its probably not safe.

I believe you have some FTX intended for the .308MarlinExpress.
Max oal for a Marlin action is 2.600” due to both internal limitations as well as ejection port. A Winchester about 2.615” IRRC.

The case OAL for the .308ME is 1.920”, which allows the use of the longer ogive bullet.
Hornady #8 lists 37.0gr as max, however your bullet seated to the cannelure will likely not chamber. Seated to 2.600” you likely won’t be able to crimp them, but should shoot ok. (but not at 38.0gr!). The length of the .30/30 neck makes it a little more forgiving. You really need to pull the bullets and swap for correct bullets. If you’re in W.Central Ga, I’ll swap you. I have both.

Check your bullet box, correct item # for .30/30 is #30395.
.308ME bullet is #30396

The .30/30 specific bullet has a more blunt profile and cannelure more forward.

Goose you were right on, they are for the ME. Thanks for the input. Wish I was in your neighborhood, but I'm in the Socialist Republic of New York

Actually NY is two states. The Metropolis down east, and Albany. Then there is the rest, “UpState”, that’s not unlike North Georgia. I went to school with a buddy in college. He shot his first deer with a rifle of mine in west Alabama. He was in pre-vet. Ended up not getting into vet school, but was in med school in Grenada when Reagan extricated them. Heard he later graduated and returned to upstate NY.
