I am replacing the hammer on my carbine. The carbine is an Iver Johnson but most of the parts are USGI. The hammer was by Inland. I had no problem at all removing the hammer spring and the old hammer. My problem is reinstalling the hammer spring. I suppose there must be a specific method or special tool that I am missing. If you can offer some advise, I sure would appreciate it. Thanks, Ron W

Use the recoil spring guide as a hammer spring plunger tool.

With the hammer UN-cocked:

Insert the end of the hammer spring into the hole in the rear of the trigger guard.

Insert the short end of the recoil spring guide into the hole in the hammer plunger with the plunger on the RIGHT side of the hammer.

Use the recoil spring guide to pull the hammer spring and plunger to the rear until the guide can be slipped into the cut on the back of the hammer.

You can also use a 1/8" punch.

FWIW, I use the long end of the recoil spring guide. Less likely to slip out and I can use two fingers, one on each side of the hammer, to pull the guide back.
