.30 carbine bullets for reloading .327?

I know that a fair number of folks in the way back, lacking .312 bullets for rifles had some success with Using .308 bullets in their .310 to .312 rifles.

this made me curious as to whether anyone has experience using .30 carbine SP or HP bullets in reloading .327 Magnum cartridges.

interested in actual experience and not guesses and opinions based on other than experience.

so anyone try it?

what bullets did you use?

was accuracy actually awful or just not as good or even no different?

how was velocity?

did they expand?

I bought some 100gr Speer "plinker" bullets, they're jacketed on the bearing surface while the round nose is lead.

There's almost no neck tension on the bullet, the Lyman M die I had opened up the case mouth too much, so I had to use the Lee expander and just barely open it to get a little bit of tension. I had to crimp the bullet hard to keep it from falling deeper into the case. Because of that I did not attempt to shoot more than one at a time in a revolver as the recoil would have likely caused a crimp jump in other rounds. Also wouldn't try it in the Henry lever action because the bullets would have likely been set back into the case under pressure in the tube magazine.

For a single shot break action, I think it'd work, but it's not ideal. Accuracy was surprisingly good at 15 yards on steel plates.

Lee makes an undersize sizing die for .32 and I would really like to believe that it might be able to squeeze the ID of the case enough to get better neck tension, but IDK and don't care to spend the $20 to find out. If it did work the brass would be worked more and case life wouldn't last as long, but maybe it's worth it. Until Federal gets off their high horse and start making their JSP pistol bullets available for reloaders the Speer bullets are the cheapest jacketed bullets available in the .32 caliber.
