It's the first day of buck season here in Pennsylvania, and my husband decided to take his great-grandfather's 300 savage for a walk this morning. By 7 a.m. I got a call. I attached a picture of proof that it done him good. :)

Congratulations to your husband, Trina !!! That's a beautiful buck !!!

But since the .300 Savage is not a modern, fancy, shiny, loud Magnum, I'm afraid he'll have to take that buck back and turn it loose.;):D

Convince him there is Magic in that old Savage rifle (because there IS !)

Yes, this old gun is making this beautiful thing even more sweeter. He took a 75-yard shot and it stumbled & ran directly toward him, to within 20 yards. 'Course he shot it again because he wasn't giving him the opportunity to get away.

I'm thrilled he took my advice and took the Savage over the 8 mm, and what an awesome story to send with the gun when our son inherits it. That was the second thing he said after he told me he shot it.

They just don't grow buck around here like this, and it even has a drop tine. This is a once-in-a-lifetime buck, and what a blessing it is! It'll be awhile until that smile is wiped off his face.

I was admiring the rifle instead of the buck - the buck is nice, but the rifle is outstanding.;) The Savage 99 is truly a classic rifle.

The future of our 99 Savage

Here's a picture of our son who will inherit the 99 Savage some day. As you can tell, he was really excited for his dad. What a memory.

Would someone expect less? A .300 Sav and M99 = dead critters!! Simple! Got 2 nice Caribou with mine the other day.

I'm sold! My husband got up this morning and finished filling his tag with a huge doe with one shot. Down she went. Our freezer's stocked for the year. :)

that will be a nice looking addition to ANY wall.

AS for the rifle...well...don't need to say much about that. :)

Just wish I had one in 250-3000, 300 or 303 Savage (just to be different...)

Also a lucky man to have his wife on here bragging about that trophy! A DAMN lucky man! :D

Out-freakin-standing! Nice buck. :) I don't believe it, of course - no Savage 99 in .300 savage could ever kill a deer (only the magnum buttstompers can), but we'll pretend your story is true! :p

Question: The Savage 99s are pretty cool, but aren't they unnecessarily looooooong, what with that long receiver, and the long wood area behind the receiver, above where the lever cycles?

Nice Job!

That gun is making me really miss my 99 in 250-3000, I must have been out of my mind for selling it 5 years ago......

Congrats, nothing like taking a trophy animal without the latest trophy rifle :)

I love it when a 300 Savage is mentioned most of the morons that happen to be around all say man thats way too much for deer thinking its about like a 300 Win Mag.

"...man thats way too much for deer thinking its about like a 300 Win Mag."

LOL ! :D

You'll get the same thing if you tell them your "other deer rifle" is a .275 Rigby. ":what: OH DUUUDE, is there anything left of them???"

Once in a great while you'll come across someone who knows the ".275 Rigby" is the 7x57, but not too often.;)

That was my dads favorite combination for deer hunting in Michigan, it definitely does the job:D BTW Nice Buck!
