.308 barrel lengths

Any opinions on trade-offs in barrel length for a DPMS .308 semi-auto

Applications will be varied, but this will be my general purpose .308 rifle

I wavering between an 16" and an 18"

Definitly go for at least a 18. I remember a magazine(SWAT I think) did a article on all the barrel lengths for .308 and I think it came out 19" being the optimal length for most bullet weights.
