.308 for nilgai?

All I know is from reading: Most folks use something like a .338. The main thing is a heavy bullet for deep penetration. Nilgai are thick-skinned and heavy-boned critters. Live weight is from 400 (cow) to 700 (bull) pounds, as a generality.

One article I read said there are somewhere toward 10,000 of them on the King Ranch. I've seen them from the Intracoastal Waterway, down in that country.

And that's about all I know. :)

I've read that some guide services won't take you hunting for Nilgai with anything less than a .300WinMag. I'd say that'd be a pretty good reference point.

It's official, I'll be moving to Texas on 15 Jul 06. Got a great hunting connection in the valley!

I guess this is an awesome excuse to buy a new rifle...

As with any critter a properly placed .308 round with a good bullet will do the job on a nilgai bull.

You'll just have to pick your shots and watch your range.

Good luck on your move I hope things work out for you.
