NO experience with this brass so I thought I had better ask. Do you need to reduce loads with this particular brass vs. say FC, RP brass for 308. What has been your experience with this. Also the pockets do not appear to have been crimped. Is that the case, or did someone swage these. Thanks for any info with this particular brass.

Headstamp is LC Match

The LC match brass, both cal. .30 and7.62mm, has uncrimped primer pockets. The easiest way to determine relative case volume is by simply taking examples of each type of brass you wish to load, weighing them empty, and then filling each with water to the case mouth and weighing them again. This will give you a good approximation of the actual volume of each case type, while case weight alone can't tell you how the brass is distributed in the case itself. Adjust your loads accordingly.

Do you think a reloading manual starting load for a given bullet is a safe place to start with this brass.

So long the bullet your substituting is similar construction and bearing surface.

LC volume is usually less than commercial brass, but I don't know about LC Match brass... since I've never had any. As PRD mentions, you can check volume with water, if you must know, or, if your loads won't be pushing max anyway, a safe workup from a published starting load should suffice.

A few years back when components were scarce and hard to find, Midway was selling LC pull down brass, so not only did you get the brass, but a live CCI 34 primer, which is hotter than the standard LRP. I adopted the practice of dropping 1 grain for the primer and another grain for the brass......so - 2 grains overall. Must have worked, as they went bang and I'm still here to tell about it.

If your starting at a start load from any manual no reduction is nessary. I recommend bullet manufacturers data cross referenced to powders data. Play in the region they overlap.

I have a bunch of LC Match in 308 no issues but like most 7.62x51 brass is thicker with a little less case volume

I have shot a pretty good bit of LC Match brass. I've found it to be very consistent. The primer pockets are not crimped.

Yes, the starting load should be a safe place to start. Expect your max load to be slightly lower than the books max load.

An interesting did bit of info; some years LC Match brass has a knurled ring just ahead of the extractor groove. This brass was loaded with a HPBT bullet.
