I have a Winchester 92 in 44 Magnum, which has a 1:26 twist barrel. Will it stabilize 300+ grain lead bullets? Specifically the Lee C430-310-RF. If yes, will it only stabilize at max pressure? Will medium loads stabilize with this twist?

I don't have the mould to just test it, so I'm hoping someone that's experimented with it will chime in.

Thanks,

Bazoo

Actually ....Sir Alfred George Greenhill :feet: of the British Royal Military Academy....

(Miller if you get into modern sleek projos.... but we're talking cast footballs in the case of the 44 mag here)
It's actually kind of messy all told,
Thank you for sharing that. I bookmarked it.

The 1892's twist rate is all over the map, depending on who made it
Miroku: 1-26
Chiappa/Rossi: 1-30
Cimarron: 1:20
< But all of them are better than Marlin's 1-38 (Grrrrr.... :cuss: ) >

I've got a Rossi Carbine and a Mountain Mould 300gr (mold) downstairs.
But that little SO(8) is painful enough as it is.....

Thanks MEHavey and Alaskamike. I'll have to figure out what I can do when I pick up a 300 grain mould. I have a Ranch Dog CTL432-265-RF that I'm currently using. I don't plan to give up on that, just trying new stuff. Heck, I'm also going the other way and wanting to develop some 200 grain RF loads for plinking.

Well I’ve a Browning 92 and use NOE 280 and haven’t had any problems.
I use a SSK by NEI in a 310 in my Smith model 29 without any problems. But, I’m only concerned with critters right on the end of the barrel. So for a little distance I can’t say.
I can’t believe that you would have a problem with a 1-26 twist especially in a carbine.
The 310 NEI mold is the Sledgehammer designed by J D Jones. It is to long to load in magnum cases and cycle in the 92 or I would use them.
