Taking my Dirty Harry Smith & Wesson Model 29 Classic .44 Magnum to 329 yards. 6 1/2” barrel. Iron sights. Revolver is zeroed at 25 yards. I took some shots at 95 yards with a dead on hold. Figured out the holdover at 300+ and rung the steel. Used some Elmer Keith long range handgunning techniques. 240 Black Hills JHP ammunition.

No BS. My son just did this last Saturday with my 29-2. 300 yards and a 10" plate. rang it on the 13th and 14th shots.

I bet him pound of Varget and a thousand primers he couldn't do it.

They were some prety mild loads, 9 grains of unique over a 240 gr swc.

Nice! My hits were on my 2nd cylinder on shots 11 & 12. The steel is around a 2 ft. x 3 ft. plate. Never actually walked all the way out there to measure it.

Nice. Wasn't Elmer Keith taking deer at like 300-500 yards with a .44 mag or something crazy like that?

I believe it was 600 yards on a wounded deer that was getting away. Pretty much a hail Mary shot, but he did it. My longest one was about 250 at a Turkey. 3rd shot got tailfeathers. But I was shooting a ruger redhawk...

250 yards a turkey would look like a dot. I can't even see that far. lol. Great shot!

I am sure his hits were pure luck. it was foggy and pouring down rain.
Blasphemy. Keith could shoot one eye out of a spider at 100 yards blindfolded in a hurricane with a proper gun, I think.

Op- good shooting, this seems to be a dying sport (long range pistol shooting). Guys out there think you need a 6.5 creedmoore to shoot 100 yards. I used to regularly shoot a nonadjustable sighted 45 colt at 100 yards and hold a 5-6" group. That's as good as I could do rested but I'm not the best shooter ever born by any stretch. I've heard others claim that a 45-70 is a 100 yard gun more times than I care to remember. The shooters ability is the key, lob them in there and the steel rings or the critter drops. Where I live there's nowhere to shoot over 100 yards so I don't get to practice much at distance but it certainly has been done and done well for a very long time.

That's awesome man. Heck, I get excited hitting an 18" plate at 100 yards with my 4 inch 629. Would love to shoot at a place that enabled long shots like you were at. Very cool place and nice shooting.

I've never tried anything like that. But with some skill and practice know it can be done. Bob Munden duplicated Elmer Keith's 600 yard shot just to prove it was possible.

And not to be out done Jerry Miculek went to 1000 yards with 9mm.

329 yards seems impossible to me, going 600 and 1000 is just hard for me to wrap my head around.

600 is amazing, and 1000 with a 9mm? Jerry isn't human....

That is awesome and I am glad to see some fellow BB Shooters on Kauai! My dad lived in Princeville and bought a Ruger Toklat. When he went to the police station to finish his registration they acted like he was nuts...but apparently he is not alone.

I also have a 500 mag and the guy at the police registration didn't even comment on it. Must be a different person because he never comments on any of the firearms I bring in to get registered haha. Took it to 100 yards.

Watched a young fella by the name of Herret drop an antelope out on the ranch at 430 yards with a pistol. He and friends brought a suburban full of guns and a U-haul trailer full of Ammo. When the four of them filled out on antelope, they got serious and killed 7,000 pasture poodles over the next week.

I always wondered where the shooting spot was! My dad had to shoot over by Lihue. They people were very nice and treated him well. He was up in age at that point and they took the time to make sure he passed his test. Have fun over there!

"Jerry isn't human...."
I agree - anyone who can hit an 18" x 24" steel plate at 200 yards with a Smith & Wesson J frame snub held upside down , pinky for trigger finger in double action
is ... not ..... human.

How on earth does Miculek ever find anything on those ammo shelves?!

I saw that too.

I like having ammo but that would be nuts!
