I haven't used Alliant's 2400 Powder in years but purchased some this past weekend. I have a question regarding my .357 loads. I'm using Zero's 125 grain Jacketed Hollow point and I started with 15 grains of 2400, then 15.5 grains, then 16.0 grains and 16.5 grains. According to the Lyman reloading 49th edition, I'm well within the max load (17.7 grains) that they show for a 125 grain Jacketed Hollow point, however Lyman states that their loads were based on using the Hornady 125 Jacketed Hollow point. I think my loads are safe but not sure given the two different bullets. Has any of my fellow HRoaders loaded Zero's 125 grain Jacketed Hollow point using 2400? If so what were your loads?

I am not familiar with Zero bullets. I have loaded many 125g Hornady, Winchester and Remington JHPs with 17.5g 2400. That is max per Alliant. They shoot great but you have to watch for flame cutting of the top strap, and forcing cone damage. They are loud and like a fire breathing dragon of a load.

Ya, I took those 125 Zero's for a test drive a little while back, and I didn't care for them as a magnum bullet. They worked great in +P 38 spcl., but not with magnum class powders. I use 296 / H110, and because they have a much shallower canelure than a typical jacketed bullet like XTP, Nosler, Sierra, or Gold Dot, I experienced problems with them jumping the crimp. I applied all the roll crimp possible without collapsing the case body, and they were still jumping the crimp. So IMO, they aren't suited for for full throttle magnum loading.

I would recommend reserving them for 38 spcl., or use faster burning powders that don't produce full magnum pressures.

Yup been there done that!

16.5gr of 2400 is where I saw the best REPEATABLE accuracy.
It's definitely a snot-bubbler, but fun to shoot in a 4+ inch barrel (S&W Model 65-2).
I wish I could give you chronograph data, but I lost all my data for that load.
If I remember correctly it averaged about 1175 - 1200fps. with fairly low extreme spread & standard deviation.

Not so much fun in a 2.25" Ruger SP101
